and $1 for children.
The downtown Street Fair, one of the
largest components of the festival, will
initiate a night of musical entertainment,
dancing and food on Friday evening.
Featured acts include Will Hodge and
Gran Torino.
“It is amazing how the Azalea Festi
val has grown, especially Street Fair,”
said Street Fair Chairman Joe Clark. “I
have served on the committee for four
years, and each year I try to increase it
and make it different.”
Clark envisions Street Fair as a way
to “give back” to the families in the
community. He said he tries to increase
diversity among the entertainers and
provide a positive environment for
people of all ages. By hiring vendors
who do not sell alcohol, Clark plans to
make the setting fun for the whole fam
ily.
The Street Fair is made up of four
stages, each focusing on a different as
pect of entertainment. Hannaford
Hank's Children’s area, sponsored by
Hannaford Inc., will feature performing
troupes from regional dance academies
as well as face painters. Discovery Toys,
and fingerprinting by the New Hanover
county Sheriff's Department. The stage
is located at the Cotton Exchange park
ing lot on Water Street.
Over 40 pageants will be represented
on the Cape Fear Stage on Saturday and
Sunday. The event will feature appear
ances by Miss Black Teen of North
Carolina, Greater Wilmington Queens,
and NC Tobacco Festival Queens. This
stage is located in the Cape Fear Com
munity College parking lot on Water
Street.
The Spiritual Celebration stage, lo
cated on Estelle Lee Drive near the
Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to
gospel music. The Spiritual Celebration
will have 18 musical and theatrical acts,
including Step of Faith and First Fruit
Ministries.
The oldest and most popular enter
tainment venue is the festival’s main
stage, located in front of the Federal
Building on Water Street. According to
Clark, this stage will feature bands on
the edge of making it big. Local and tou
ring bands will perform for the public
on a volunteer basis.
Humchuck Fire, Who’s Your Daddy
and Hanging Francis are a few of the
bands who will be playing on the main
stage.
Also featured will be Captain Zippy,

IS III
For all courses, section numbers have now been changed from 2 digits to 3 digits
to communicate more information. The section number now indicates both the delivery
method of the section as well as any special characteristics of the section. As you select
a course, be aware of the times and days the class meets, the delivery method and any
special characteristics indicated by the section number and call number. If you have any
questions about a particular section, please contact the instructor or department.
If you are in the UNCW extension program, the system will only allow you to register
for courses with section numbers in the 800 series. To register for a course out of that
series, you must obtain permission from the office of the dean of the school/college for
your major. If you are enrolled as a regular on-campus student and you wish to register
for course(s) in the 800 series, you must also obtain permission from the office of the
dean of the school/college for your major.

downtown venues such as Charlie
Brownz and Barney's about twice a
week. Captain Zippy has released two
albums since 1999 and is anticipating a
possible summer tour to take them to
more events like Azalea Festival.
“We are really excited about playing
Azalea Fest,” said Tom Gossin, the lead
singer of Captain Zippy. “We will be
among many non-local bands and...able
to play a different venue than the regu

Every concert at the Main Stage is
free and open to the public.
Saturday morning’s parade presents
Queen Azalea and her court, including
Azalea Princess Melanie Brooks, a
Hoggard High School senior. Visiting
celebrities, floats, marching bands and
circus animals will wind through down
town, beginning with Third Street and
ending at North Front Street.
For the past few years, the festival
has concluded with a Saturday evening
concert in Trask Coliseum. However,
this year Clark has moved the acts
downtown and made the event free. The
concert, titled “Street Dance." will fea
ture Morris Day and the Time followed
by the Tams will take place on the main
stage at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Morris Day and the Time worked
