Sculptors and art ists from across North Carolina and the East Coast were invited to present their sculptures for the project. Ren Brown, the director of St. John’s Museum of Art, Hannah Gage of WGNI-FM radio, and Drs. Kemille Moore and Tony Janson of the art and theatre department, judged the competition. “The sculptures were evaluated on the basis of artistic merit, rela tionship to the site and project goals,” said Tara Griffin of Erickson Public Relations. “It was also im portant for the artwork to be able to withstand environmental condi tions, take into account public safety and not require much main tenance.” Once the sculpture has been un veiled, a number of speakers will comment on the importance of pub lic art. Then a champagne toast will be offered in celebration of Sueyoshi s work. The boutiques and restaurants of The Forum will spon sor special promotions all evening, allowing guests to shop and enjoy the retail center. There will be sev eral drawings during the evening for gift certificates. A raffle for a $1,000 Forum shopping spree is being held to benefit St. John’s Museum of Art. Members of the art museum will receive special dis counts for different vendors throughout the event. Tickets for the Sculpture Soiree are $ 15 each and all of the proceeds benefit St. John’s Museum of Art.
