Transactors Improv Company ap
peared in Kenan Auditorium last Satur
day night. Transactors Improv performs
improvisational comedy based on audi
ence suggestions. They utilize music,
dance and their unique storytelling tech
niques to captivate the audience. Trans
actors Improv Company was brought to
UNC Wilmington courtesy of Campus
Activities. The performance was part of
the Arts and Lectures Series.
“It’s exciting to have them here,” said
Shannon Hooker, campus activities co
ordinator.
The show was performed using long-
form improv, which made up an enter
taining forty-five minute show. At the
audience’s request, the show was based
at a radio station and the events were
portrayed as a musical. The company
danced, sang and improvised skits for a
hysterical audience.
The company was formed in 1983 at
The ArtSchool in Carrboro, N.C. The
company originally intended for their
shows to be for children but later devel
oped into a professional touring com
pany designed for all ages.
The members of Transactors Improv
Company are Greg Hohn, Director, Zach
Hanner, Nancy Pekar, Arouskka Brod,
Mo Chamble and Carol Parker.
The Transactors Improv Company
mainly appears on the East Coast but has
performed as far west as Colorado
Springs, Colo.
“We stick to the East Coast because
we are a not-for-profit corporation and
we all have outside jobs,” Hanner said.
The group has
gained national recog
nition as a not-for-profit
corporation partly sup
ported by a grant from
the North Carolina Arts
Council.
The company is not
for entertainment pur
poses only. They also
travel to area schools
teaching improvisa
tional techniques.
Hanner is from
Wilmington and used to
appear in the comedy
group Comically Im
paired. He has been
with the group for a
little over a year now
and believes that thegroup has, “ Im
proved my auditioning and thinking
skills. I am now quick on my feet.”
Before the show. Transactors Improv
Company spent a few hours working
with local improvisational company The
Other Side. This group started up about
a year ago and performs at the Firebelly
lounge.
“I enjoyed working with them,” said
The Other Side member Richard White.
