PAGE FOUR OCTOBER 10. 1961 More About Staff in-chiel and the Assistant Edi tor to decide what articles are to go into the paper and how each of these is to be written up. They then consider which staff writer is best qualified and most interested in this topic and na a It e the assign ments on this basis. During staff meetings the staff writers, or reporters, re ceive their assignments for the coming issue. The editors, with the exception of the Co- Art Editors, give the final de cision on all articles. One of the editors in the Art Depart ment is assigned the feature personality sketch. This per son, however, determines the quality of his or her work. The campus cartoon is created by the other Art Editor and the staff’s approval is the only re quirement. Newspaper work has one constant pressure, that of meet ing the deadline. No excep tions are recognized and “1 can’t think of a thing to say” is no excuse. The deadline for each issue is the Tuesday prior to the circulation date. For ex ample, th6 deadline for this issue was Tuesday, Oc tober 3. One may think that this policy would almost "in sure” stale news, but with an alert staff and the co-opera tion of the Student Body, the news will always be current. The purpose of this article is to introduce to each student the editorial proced ure of the paper. If any stu dent has a contribution he wishes to make he may bring it by the staff room (basement of the Student Center) at any ■ timer“T-.etters to tne Editor are also welcomed and encouraged We want to know what each student is thinking about and the other students want to know this also. Actually the student newspaper is the only place, as yet, where we, as a student body, can express our opinions. Let’s make use of this media. The deadline for the next issue is Tuesday, Oc tober 17. It is listed in the libraries as a work on advertising psy chology. A review in the Library Jour nal reads: “A popular presentation of that aspect of mass communi cation concerned with the use of, and misuse of, socio-psycho- logical research in advertising and public relations. Mr. Pack ard particularly speaks of the -apidly growing field of “moti vational research’ as carried out by several highly successful or ganizations. It is this research which is providing the accu rate psychological information undergirding current advertis- ng campaigns and which ac counts for the frightening ef fectiveness of many of them.” The Christian Science Moni tor gave the book these merits: “The book is certainly of value in oj>ening to full view an important area in American ife which deserves closer scrut- ny than it has been getting.” Possibly some of you will be ntrigued by these* brief ac counts of some of Mr. Pack ard’s works, and wish to look irther into the writings that lie has done. Is he a saint? No. Like many of our ministers, Andrew comes face to face with some slightly unsaintly situations. Does he preach? Andrew will never admit it. If you ever find a moral or didacticism in any of his adventures, please do not tell him; he would blush. If he does not preach, what does he do? Andrew ministers to your sense of the ridiculous and to your sensitive “funny bone.” If you smile, chuckle, or laugh about his antics, let Andrew know by dropping a note to him in care of the College Newspaper. When you think of a funnier situation, then tell him about it and he will be more than glad to oblige. More About C. A. Watch the bulletin, boards for the site.
