PAGE FOUR THE LANCE DECEIVIBEB 5, 1961 Bumble Puppy (Continued from Page 3) fun, too. He went on to say, however, that these stellar activities were unfortunately, inadequate. In a few years boredom would set in and sports would be in danger of vanishing altogether. Dont’ despair. There is hope. There is, he tells me, a new game to replace all the older, complicated, and obviously out dated ones. The name of this new game? That’s right Cen trifugal Bumble Pubby. Let me explain, as best I can, how this game is to function. The game centers around, as do most things in this mod ern world, a machine. A cen trifuge, to be exact. It is to stand about eight feet high, be four feet across, with slots cut in its side and standing against a wall. There are six lanes cor- respKjnding to the slots radiat ing from the centrifuge. The players stand in these, in this order: immediately in front of the machine, the center; to his right the right bumble and the right puppy, with the puppy closest to the wall. It is to be the same on the left side, the left bumble and the left puppy. Once the players take position a ball is thrown into the cen trifuge, is whirled around,, and thrown out one of the slots. Points are scored in catching the ball, straight or on the bounce, and points lost in miss ing it. That clear? The beauty of the thing is that anyone could play. Being a machine, it could be slowed down for children. Knights Show Potential In Losing Cause Defeated by Fredrick 67-54 Cecil Chewning Topscorer The Knights of St. Andrews, making history by ushering in our inter-collegiate athletics, went down in a viciously-fought game at the hands of the Fred erick College Tigers to the tune of 67-54. The Fredrick College team from Portsmouth, Va. entered the game with an excellent rec ord from last year and last year’s complete starting line up only to find that they had to fight for their lives through- women, or even inactive men. Imagine the effect this would have on our everyday lives. Centrifugal Bumble Puppy cen ters. Coach Rufus Hackney’s start- -^rs Cecil Chewning, Jolm and Joe Speaks, Doug Maxwell, and Joe Buckner quickly ran up a nine point advantage in the first quarter. This lead, how ever, disappeared during the second quarter v.?ith the Lions holding a four-point edge at the half-time buzzer. The Fredrick boys poured on the steam during the second half and at one time held a lead of 12 points only to see the knights, who were never out of contention throughout the game, fight within five points of the lead. Nearing the end of the game the Lions exe cuted several successful fast breaks and managed to pile up an 11 point advantage at the final buzzer. Cecil Chewning who shared top scoring honors with the Lion’s Tex Murray, scored 16 points. He was followed by the Knight’s Joe Buckner with 15 points and Jim Bunnell and Joe Speaks tied at 7 points.
