The next day, March 26 until Friday, March 28 Is the period for self nominations for Stu dent Association offices In the Student Affairs Office. Tues day, April 8 until 4:00 p.m. Is the closing date for self nominations. Campaigning will take place from Wednesday, April 9 through Sunday April 13. There #111 not be any campaign speeclies unless candidates wish to organize them them selves.. Voting will be held in the dorms from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and in the L. A. from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for off campus students on Mon- da;^ April 14. Dormitory self nominations will open Wednesday, April 15 and will close Saturday, April 19 at noon. Campaigning will take place in the dorms from Sunday, April 20 until Tues day, April 22. Dorm meetings should be scheduled for Monday or Tuesday for questions. Those desiring an absentee ballot must contact Carol Williamson This year Spring Fling will Incorporate the best parts of past SA flings plus the added attraction of the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble. Although new to the tradi tional type of entertainment at St. Andrews, the Ensemble of fers more of a variety than the “sour singers offered in the past. The -New York Rock and Roll Ensemble has played In colleges all over the nation. Their repertoire ranges from turned on Bach to the Associa tion-type sound to the Beatles. The Ensemble was the main attraction at Midwinters at Davidson College this year. The President of Davidson’s Social Council said that they were the best concert group they have had In four years. The concert will be In the gym April 19 at 8:30. Dance At Barn The Student Center Board will sponsor a dance at the Barn in Maxton from 9 to 1 on April 18. “The Atlantic Pa cific”, the house band at Fayet teville’s Pink Pussycat will Some Comment on the SA Faculty (Continued from Page 1) deans a year for this purpose. But it might be of Interest to students to know that many members of our faculty turn down offers of this kind every year because they prefer to stay at St. Andrews rather than ac cept positions elsewhere. It Is safe to say, I am sure, that our faculty next year, as has been the case, for the past five or six years, will be stron ger than it is this year. As we make new appointments, stu dents will want to know about them and I will try to provide such information for the “Lance”. Let me mention here two new appointments in the field of politics for next year. These men will not only bring needed strength to that area but will have large responsi bility for developing the new program In the social and be havioral sciences which we are undertaking. Dr. A. Guy Hope, Pro fessor of Politics and Director of the core program in politics, business and economics. Dr. Hope took an LL.B. degree at the University of Virginia, an M. A. at George Washington University, and the Doctor of Social Science In the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syra cuse. University. He has also* done graduate study on the Far East, Japan and South Asia at Princeton University and Stan ford University. For twenty years he was a foreign service officer with the State Depart ment, serving in Europe, Africa and Far East and later In Wash ington as director of the Near Eastern and South Asian Re gional Affairs office. Upon his return to Syracuse University he served as acting director of the South Asia Pro gram in 1964-65 and a member of the South Asian Studies Com mittee at that university for three years. In 1967 he ac cepted a position at Western Kentucky University as Pro fessor of Government and di rector of South Aslan Studies, and comes to St. Andrews from this position. In addition to a number of bulletins and reports for the State Department, Dr. Hope has published a book on “The U. S. Role in Indian In dependence” and has lectured frequently in the Foreign Ser vice Institute of the Department of State. He will, of course, make an Important contribution to the South Asian program In junior C&C, as well as to our work in politics. Dr. Hope Is married and has two daughters who are now attending junior college. George L. Fouke, Assis tant Professor of Politics. Mr. Fouke holds the B. A. degree from Lafayette College, the M. A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and is completing work for the Ph.D. at the Uni versity of Colorado this sum mer. He also holds a certificate from the Center for the Ad vancement of Higher Education for work done at the Unlver- three years he has taught a course on the Foundations of Social Science in the Integrated Studies program at the Uni versity of Colorado. Both this year and last year he received an award for Exe)llence In Teaching at Colorado. We were all much Impressed, not only by his competence and insight but by his enthusiasm and his approachto college edu cation when he visited St. An drews recently.
