C. THURSDAY, NOV. 13, 1969 W-S President Resigns; Lists Senate as a Reason BY JIM POPE The President and the Vice- President ot Winston-Salem Hall have resigned their posi tions within the dorm. Ron Tingle, president, re leased a letter on Tuesday, November 11, which listed his motives for resigning. ‘‘1. The necessity of spend ing a much larger percentage of my time in studying in order to assure my graduation in May. 2., My increasing frustration over the unwillingness of the Senate to fulfill its necessary constitutional functions. 3. My seeming inability to work successfully with the dorm council in providing con structive leadership for the en tire dorm” In a telephone interview last ■'ight, Tingle said “The minority block in the senate which I was a member of was fighting a losing battle and it was becoming more so”. ‘ We were accomplishing no- ti'ing,” he continued, ‘ and I was sick of it”. He said about the Dorm Coun cil, “We never established the rapport that we should have”. Last ni^t at a dorm coun cil meeting, Mark Perkins, vice-president of the dorm, an nounced his resignation be cause, a reliable source said, of his grades. The council rejected a pro posal by Mike Ferrell, Student Association President, to let him appoint a new president of the dorm. They are waiting to hear word from the elections committee as to how to handle the special election which has become necessary. Outstanding Seniors Merited For Their Service to SA BY SARA LEE Eighteen seniors from St. An dre w s have been named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” The list, origin ally selected by upperclassmen from all seniors eligible by standards set up by the Stu- St. Andrews Acreditibility To Be Re-Examined Next week, a committee of the Southern Association of Col leges and Schools will visit the St. Andrews campus for the purpose of determining whether the accreditation of the college should be renewed or not. This committee will examine every department and operation of the college and will expect to talk with faculty and students as well. The examination will in clude an analysis of the self study, which has been in pre paration for over a year by faculty administration, trus tees, and students from this year's senior class and last year’s graduating class. The Southern Association is a regional agency whose job is to renew accreditation for every school in this area. This ex amination is done on a periodic basis, usually at 10 year in tervals. When St. Andrews was founded and initially accredited, the S.A.C.S. stipulated that St. Andrews be reviewed five years after the completion date. The members of this group who will be on campus from Novem ber 16-19 are; Chairman: Dean Bruce Thomas, Dean of the Uni versity, Trinity University; President Charles C. Turner, Jr., Tennessee Wesleyan Col lege; Sister Annette Thomas, Chairman, Department of Edu cation, Brescia College; Dean William Wade, Dean of the Fa culty, King College; Dean Fre derick Crosson, CollegeofArts and Letters, University of Notre Dame; Dean William K. Barbara Bryant, a history major from Dedham, Massa chusetts, is currently presi dent of Concord dormitory and secretary of the Senate. She also has served as president of the WRA. John Everett is a member of the Student Life Committee, the Judicial Committee and the baseball team. A suite leader in Kings Mountain, John is a psychology major from Hunt ington, West Virginia. The President of the Student Association, Mike Ferrell, al so served on the Code of Res ponsibility and Student Life Committees. Mike, who is mar ried to the former Bonnie Far rell and lives off campus, is an English major. Dixie Fulton, a senior repre sentative to the Judiciary Board and student member of the Li brary Committee, Is a suite leader in Granville. Also on the Elections Board, Dixie is an English major from Colum bia, Tennessee.
