Two Forums Held To Discuss Open Dorms Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. the Student Life Committee met with a random selection of the student body to discuss the Open Dorm Policy. Of the entire stu dent population, 28 students re ceived letters inviting them to participate in the discussion. Present at the meeting were 9 students of the 28 selected. The purpose of the discus sion was to get the opinions of studmts representing a cross section of the student popula tion, Students expressed their feelings on the present Open Dorm Policy openly and ho nestly. On the v^ole the stu dents fdt that the open dorms, as they are now, encouraged development of responsibility and maturity. The practice ot In^vidual s^es solving their pr*lems within themselvM^ pealed to the group. Also it was felt that U problems arose \(^cb, for some reason, could not be solved within the suite then such cases should be re ferred to the dorm council for handling. Dean McNair was Impressed with the openess and honesty expressed by the students in response to the discussion. Both Dean McNair and Ken Watkins, president of the Student As sociation, thou^t the meeting to be very helpful. Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. Interested students and faculty gathered in Granville Dorm lounge to discuss what actually is hs^penlng to open dorms, rhis meeting was an informal, n>en forum discussion, Susan Whitford, president of Gran ville, acted as moderator. The purpose of this meeting was to get an idea of how Qi>en dorms are being handled wtthin suites and within the dorm structure.
