Marion Cannon Returns
MARION CANNON
By Steven J. Kunkle
This year’s season of the
Writer’s Forum continues
with Marion Cannon, who will
be reading her poetry tonight
in Granville at 6:30.
“Mrs. Cannon has con
sistently led St. Andrews
students in a ritual howling at
the moon at the end of each
reading. It is anticipated she
will do the same tonight,”
says Ron Bayes, St. Andrew’s
writer-in-residence.
Mrs. Cannon is the author
of two books, both published
by Red Clay Press: Another
Light and Second Wind. Her
publisher, Charleen Whisnant
Swansea, is with her for this
reading.
Marion Cannon, who is in
her 70’s, has been the leading
exponent of civil rights in
North Carolina and has a
honorary Doctorate of Letters
from St. Augustine College.
This is Mrs. Cannon’s fifth
visit to St. Andrews. She has
appeared for three readings
and two periods of residence.
