(Continued from page 1) Geffert Dr. Geffert bom and raised in Chicago, attended school at the Universities of Virginia and Indiana and the University of California at Berkeley, and spent one year at the University of Marburg in Germany. Geffert, who came to St. Andrews from the University of Chicago in 1963, has been the head of the Student-Faculty Appellate Board and is now a member of the Faculty Executive Board, the Steering Committee, the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Faculty Sponsor for Student Republicans. When asked why he has remained at St. Andrews, Geffert stated that, like many of the St. Andrews Faculty, he has taught at a large univesity but would rather teach in a smaller school. He prefers the individualized in struction possible in smaller classes to the more impersonal seminar or lec ture formats of large institutions. During the time over the year that Dr. Geffert has been here, he has seen the attitudes of the college move from conservative to ultra-Uberal and now, back to conservative. Geffert beUeves that one of the most valuable changes that could come of this movement is a stricter in terpretation of the Honor Code. While teaching at the University of Virginia (UVA), he was impressed with the honor code system as it was practiced there. At UVA each student was obligated to observe the system which entailed no lying, no stealing and no cheating. Students who disobeyed the Code and students who failed to report such offenders are equally guilty and were dealt with severely. Because this code promotes trust between the students themselves as well as between the students and faculty, Geffert thinks that the en forcement of this type of honor code would be beneficial to St. Andrews, both as a school and as a community. Nee Ningy Nee Ningy. When you heard that name last week, what did you think of? A new religion? A weird disease? Perhaps the name of a new prof? But as students soon found out. Nee Ningy turned out to be a band of very talented musicians, ready to give us a day of great music. Nee Ningy was first seen upstairs in the Belk Center, surrounded by a wide assortment of musical instruments which, when combined with the voices of the band members, made for a lunch Big Bang Little Soldier Mountain in Idaho is surrounded by creeks such as Pistol, Win chester, Colt, Luger, Au tomatic, Thirty-eight, For ty-five, and Popgun. appears stopper. Later at dinner the band marched through the dining room and out onto the patio, where they once again delighted students with their bawdy drinking songs, foot-stomping choruses and haunting Irish ballads. When the band took breaks. Juggler Extroordinaire-Ken Kaye- juggled pins, rings, and balls of all sizes. Ken was at St. Andrews last year for a juggling demonstration. Both of these activities were spon sored by the College Christian Council. Versatile The versatile human hand, capable of thread ing a needle and making a hammer-like fist, has. a skeleton framework of 30 small bones. I Tell Them Pm a Liberal A.rts Major And then, of course, they say: how quaint and what are you going to do with that? What am I going to do with it? As though these four phenomenal years were an object I could cart away from college- A bachelor’s degree across my back like an ermine jacket or my education hung from a ceiling on a string. What am I going to do with it? Well, I thought perhaps I’d put it in a cage to see if it multiples or does tricks or something so I could enter it in a circus and realize a sound dollar for dollar return on my investment. Then, too, I am exploring the possibility of whipping it out like a folding chair at VFW parades and Kiwanis pic nics. I might have it shipped and drive it through Italy, or sand it down and sail it. What am I going to do with it? I’ll tell you one thing. I’m probably never going to plant sod around it. You see. I’m making it a definitive work: repapering parts of my soul that can never be toured by my friends; wine glasses balanced in one hand, warning guests to watch the beam that hits people on the head when they go downstairs to see the den. You don’t understand- I’m using every breath to tread water in aU night swimming competitions with Hegel, Marx, and Wiggenstein; I am a reckless driver fondling the bottom of civilization for ropes of pearls; By Carol Jin Evans, a junior at Metropolitan State from “The Chronicle of Higher Education” I am whispering late into the night on a river bank with Zola; I am stopping often, soaking wet and exhausted, to weep at the Bastile. What am I going to do with it? I’m going to sneak it away from my family gathered for my commencement and roam the high desert / MAKING LOVE TO IT. This week Compui Papcrbock 1.
