Hey Clowns
• The Circus Is Coming
by Stephanie Porter
Come one, come all to Roberts
Brothers 3-Ring Circus at the St.
Andrews Soccer Field on Sunday,
September 30, at 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.
Acrobats, equihbrists, tumblers,
jugglers, aerialists, and clowns will
amaze you. Trained elephants,
dogs, goats, and ponies will surprise
you. Displays of excellent
horsemanship will astonish you.
Roberts Bros. Circus has a
wonderful community atmosphere.
It is a three generation family circus
based on the European style circus.
Roberts Bros. Circus is one of a
small number of traveling circuses
left in America. It travels to Maine
during the summer and returns to its
Florida base in the winter. The Col
lege Union Board, who is sponsor
ing the circus, hopes that St. An
drews will become a traditional stop
for Roberts Bros. The CUB also
hopes that the circus, a community
event, will help to bridge the gap
between the students of St. Andrews
and the Laurinburg community.
Regardless of age, everyone feels
exhilaration when watching
aerialists perform. This feeling can
reach new heights while witnessing
Leanne Earl of Roberts Bros, per
forms. Her skill, combined with
true elegance and artistic
showsmanship, has placed her as
one of the world’s primier aerial
stars.
Elephants, of course, are
necessary to the existence of a cir
cus. Lisa, the elephant star of
Roberts Bros., loves show business.
This is demonstrated by her many
wonderful performances. Lisa will
give rides to “children” of all ages
before the show.
Perhaps the biggest attraction of
circuses are the clowns. Roberts
Bros, has some very special clowns.
Bobbino and her husband Bobbo
are only two of them. Bobbino has
the very special distinction of being
the first woman ever to become a
circus clown. Bobbino loves to
make people laugh and some for
tunate citizens of Laurinburg will
get a sample of her ability when she
arrives early to announce the com
ing of the circus.
Roberts Bros. Circus will provide
all who attend a few hours of
laughter and happiness away from
the “real world”. So bring out the
fun-loving kid in yourself and come
to the circus on September 30. Ar-

Voter Registration Drive On Campus

The Americans for Democratic
Action (ADA), a non-partisan
political organization of St. An
drews is sponsoring a voter registra
tion drive. The drive will take place
on October 1, National Student
Voter Registration Day, at 7:30
P.M. in the Belk Center. Judge
Todd Williamson will officiate the
registration process.
Students who wish to vote in
Laurinburg are required to have six
months residency at St. Andrews.
This is the only legal requirement
for in-state students who do not
vote in another county. Those who
are not considered residents of
Scotland County can register in
their home counties at the county
Board of Elections on October 4.
Student ADA members urge you,
the students, to register for and vote
in the November election!
