Work And Happiness
Have you ever been totally unhappy because you had
absolutely nothing to do? Perhaps if you brush out the cob
webs from your memory, you will be able to conceive of such
a time.
Today, even though we are so busy that we hardly have
time even to think about things such as this, I am sure most
of us are happier. What fun we had as we worked together
to make May Day a success.
Now that it is all over, I believe most of the sleepy
Freshmen would say that they enjoyed writing their term
papers. In fact, most of us are really too busy, if v/e put our
time to the best use, to be unhappy.
But even in being so busy at our work, let us not forget
to be human! We can not just be happy by ourselves in our
own little world. A smile is the cheapest, and yet one of the
most valuable things that we can give to a person we meet
in the hall, in the classroom, on the tennis courts or at the
table. A friendly word takes so little effort on our part and
yet will mean so much to a person who is not considered our
best friend.
As we continue to be busy with our college work and ac
tivities, let us also remember to be busy with our work of

Clinging wildly to her suitcase
and her aging teddy bear—
Gazing upward, ever wondering,
she began to climb the stair—
Cheerful words of greeting stood
. around her all the while—
Haltingly she turned and finally
broke out in a smile—
Thus the Freshman took her first
step in her Flossie Mac career—
And with gay anticipation she
strode on to meet the year—
Orientation flung itself into her
wondering arms—
Societies then vied for her while
praising all her charms—
’Twasn’t long before she found
that she was “just a lowly rat”-
And on that day she wrote Mother
please to “poison my pet cat”—
Ever struggling through the mul
titude of courses marked re
quired—
She triumphantly rose victor; very
• joyful, very tired—
Then as Sophomore on she strug
gled, but she fell into a pit—
And it took just all within her to
• survive that “Sophomore Let”—
“Once to every man and nation
comes the moment to decide”—
She as Junior chose her major
and advanced with joyful pride
As a Senior, ever singing, on she
marches—’til the day— *
She is given her diploma and in
fame she goes away—
But a Knight so valiant sees her
and in happiness sublime—
She with him on his white charg
er rides off til the end of time.
