A STUDENT PUBLICATION OF FLORA MACDONALD COLLEGE VOLUME III RED SPRINGS. DECEMBER 6. 1954 Number 4 Pageant to Be Given At Dome Service On the evening of December 15 at 8:00 o’clock the annual Christmas Dome Service, a pan- lomine of the Nativity will be presented. This impressive pro gram has become a cherished part of the college year, and the event is now eagerly awaited by all. For the service students and guests will be seated downstairs, facing the area of the rotunda designated as the Manger scene. Effective lights, suggestive set tings, and appropriate, colorful costumes will lend a notable ful fillment to the pageant. A choir upstairs will lend greater beauty to the student presentation, which includes a carefully sel ected group of characters. The untiring efforts of the cast and various committee constituents assure success. Thorough plan ning and detailed consideration of every phase of the service lead one to further anticipate the coming occasion. Simply and beautifully, the affair is a worthy effort to instill a heart-felt ap preciation and undying spirit of reverence for the glorious open ing of the greatest story ever told. The cast for the enriching pageant includes: Mary, Jessie Blue Hardesty; Joseph, Lucille Graham, Travel er, Marlene Johnson, Watchman, Barbara Wingate; Wise Men, Pat Melvin, Lou Ann Nethercut, Mary Jane Martin; Angels, Peggy Waldo, Carolina Goodman, Mary McCraken, Ruth Evelyn Top ping, Cloe Peters, Shirley Kiger; Isaiah, Jo MacMillan; Shepherds, Mildred Drumheler, Alese Har rison, Mary Hale, Betty Jo Gore. The Dome Service will serve as a culmination of the spiritual observance of Christmas at Flora Macdonald. Clioral Club Performs at Bragg By DOTTI MORRIS At 7:30 p. m. on Saturday, De cember 4, the Flora Macdonald Choral Club presented a pro gram of music at Fort Bragg. The Choral Club sang at the Chapel for the 82nd Division of the 504 Airborne Infantry Regi ment. The Choral Club led by Mr. Lawrence Skinner gave the following program which consis ted of three numbers. They are Bach’s “Break Forth O Beaute ous Hevenly Light” and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” and also “The Christmas Hymn” by Jung- st. Miss Joyce Bryant assisted the Choral Club in this last number by playing an obbligato on her flute. Miss Bryant also played a solo which was one of the movements of a Flute Con certo by Wolfgang Mozart. White Gift Service on December 12 Student Caroling On Sunday night, December 12, members of the student body will go Christmas caroling in town. Everyone will be dressed in his warmest clothes, for the wind will probably be at its best trying to bite one’s nose Cliapei Hili Trip Fourteen of the Flora Mac donald College students will at tend the night showing of “Three for Tonight” which is to be given on Friday, December 10, 1954. The show, which will be held in the Memorial Hall at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, will begin at 8:30. Marge and Gower Champion will appear on the program. The Champions, who are well known dancers, have been featured on television and in movies. Harry Bellefonte, a singer who has been on television and is well known in the professional world is on the program. The last group on the program will be the Walter Schumann Choir. This group of singers is one of the most fam ous of its kind. The girls from here plan to leave around five o’clock on Fri day with Mrs. McCain and Betty Lou Lamb who will be driving their cars. They are anticipat ing a most enjoyable evening. One of the most inspirational experiences at Flora Macdonald during the Christmas season is the White Gift Service. The Service this year will be on December 12 at 7:30 in the auditorium. Banquet To Be Held Now that the Christmas sea son is approaching, everyone is looking forward to the tradition al Christmas Banquet on De cember 15, 1954. The tables in the dining hall will be decorated with Christmas decorations, and most of the tables have drown names and so there will be a small gift for everyone. The student’s dresses will add to the occasion for they will be dressed in colorful evening gowns. The formal occasion will in clude a program of carols in different languages by various clubs on the campus. Prayer (liapei Goal Reached The program will consist of music and the Christmas story. The Choral Club under the direction of Mr. Skinner will present a program of sacred music. Miss Joyce Bryant a member of the faculty will ren der a flute solo. The Christmas story will be given by a speach ?hoir. It is always good to i-eniem- ber others in appreciation for II of the goodness of God. In the library there is a scrapbook, containing much on the leper colony which students will find to be veiy interesting. Its needs are many and a wonderful work is being done by the helpers there. Everyone will be given an op portunity to contribute their money and it is hoped that all will give generously to this cause. Plan to attend this worship service and give your White Gift offering. Dancers To Enter Blue Christmas Fairyland “I’m dreaming of a white—.” Oh, but this time it’s a blue Christmas! Flora Macdonald girls and their dates will “see blue” as they wander around the winter wonderland, other wise known as the dining hall, December 11. As merrymakers drift to wards the gates cf this fairy land created by Zetesian and Epsilon Chi Societies, they will encounter an iced Christmas tree decorated with blue lights. They will be invited inside by figures of a man and woman placed under the clock. The figures will be dressed in old- ftshioned top hat and full skirt. Upon entering they will be greeted by Mrs. P. P. McCain, Dr. and Mrs. Marshall Woodson, Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Bullock, and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Decker. Ballard Supplies Music Dancers will glide to the music of Blain Bullard and his band from Fort Bragg. Christ mas melodies will set the mood lor this holiday festivity. Of course no celebration is without refreshments, so Elise Williams and Edith Ann Byrd have planned to serve punch, probably strawberry, homemaae cookies, and mints on a table decorated Christmas style with candles balls, and greenery. Members of the Cabinet are as busy as bees trying to think up original ideas for useful Christmas gifts. Each year they draw names for exchanging gifts. There is one requirement and that is that the gifts must be made. So many are using their sewing skill in order to meet the requirement. These gifts will be exchanged on De cember 16 at Mrs. McPhaul's home. Each Cabinet member has a surprise in store for her when she opens her gift.
