Yen—there are and it is liecause of these rea.*»on.s that we have come to the conclusion that our school shall have a pajier. Our first reason for ha\in« a paper is to kIv" the public and (ispccially the members of the racj an idea of 1h(! program that is heiuK put over In Eastern Nortii ( aroiina. Knowing this to he an ajfc of dailj’ reading and feeling that you are interes'ied in us, gives us other reasons for publishing a school paj)er. It is |)re- sum!d that all of you would like to know just what the younger people are thinking and there is no better way of letting you know Ihis than through a newspaper. Our thoughts may be somi!.what differ ent from those of the matured mind, nevertheless we will assure you through the contents of this paj)er that the students in this little eastern corner have thoughts and are not afraid to express them. \\ ho has found a better way of advertising than through our daily and school papers? There are other ways, but through this medium we hope to attract the attention of the boys and girls who have not yet decided just which road to take in life. To them we extend a most hearty invitation to join us in our class room work,- social functions, religious and athletic activities. We work as well as play. Is there anyone who can tell what the future holds for us.’ Since today’s boys and girls may be tomorrow’s men and women it pays to be successful followers as well as safe and sane leaders. Yes- publishing a school paper does help the student in that it gives him wonderful avenues of expression and wonderful opportunities for the development of leadership and scholarship. We solicit your support in this effort. THE EDITOR. Ol H D.4V OF THANKS It would be altogether unfitting for us to publish our November number without mentioning Thanks giving Day, one of the most important holidays in America. Ever since the first Thanksgiving’that was observed by the Pilgrims more than three hun dred years ago, people have been returning thanks to our heavenly Father on Thanksgiving Day for the many blessings received during the year. Here at State Normal we follow the time-honored custom. As we look back over the past year we find .h number of things for which we should be thankful. (1). We should be thankful for our school which was founded more than thirty-five years ago and today stands as one of the leading institutions for the Negro in the eastern part of North Carolina. (2). We sliould lie thankful for the opportunities wt‘ have to i)rollt by the advantages thi-s sihool officers in training for larger stirvice, (.•{). We should be thankful foi’ our race that has niade such won derful progress in the last sixty years anil for tlui good old North Stale which lias done more for the advaiteenient of education among the Negroes than any other southern state in the Union.
