ENJOYING THE GAME Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Minga have recently announced the marriage of their daughter, Audrey Elizabeth, to Mr. H. Leon Prather, on June 6, 1953, in Spring Hope, North Carolina. Mrs. Prather is an instructor in the Science department of the Elizabeth City State Teachers College, while Mr. Prather is a member of the So cial Studies staff and director of the College Band. The ultimate goal in a democratic society is self-discipline. When child ren first enter school they look to parents and to adults for guidance They depend on and, to a surprising degree, accept adult standards thru- out most of their elementary school years. In adolescence they begin to throw off this cloak of dominance They look to their peers for more satisfying behavior standards and codes. Thus begins a critical process by which children eventually reach a stage at which they make their own decisions and become responsible for their own behavior. Eighteen lettermen are expected to return from last year’s football squad provided they are not drafted diuing the summer months for military ser vice. Five lettermen graduated, includ ing two all-Conferenee men. These men will be greatly missed. Coach White seriously doubts that the Pirates will be able to repeat their performance of the 1952 sea son because of the constant threat by the military, and the increase in out-of-state tuition which will work a hardship on athletes from outside the state of North Carolina. Football practice is scheduled to begin September 1. Every effort pos sible will be put forth to present a formidable team. The schedule fol lows; Sept. 26—Voorhees—Here (tenta tive). If this is done, all home games, except homecoming, will be played under the lights. Back To S.T.C. Clarence Dowd and Robert Hailes visited the campus during the week of June 15. Rules for the game of living cannot of course be as specific and definite*'^'"'^— as they are for sports. One difficulty is that life situations change, and so more than merely a routine move is necessary. Rather we must move in the light of our past plays and in ac cordance with new conditions. We must adjust to changes. Everyday liv ing involves constant change. It re quires adjustment and readjustment for success. Schacter. I asked an aged man with hoary hairs. Wrinkled and curved with worldly cares: “Time is the warp of life”, said he, “O tell The young, the fair, the way to weave it well” I* CHAMPIONS OF MALE DIVISION Caught by he camera are John Bynum and Audrey Hailes, who w were ardent supporters of tlie intra-niural games. fi: .W Shown in a group picture after their championship game are the six young men who copped the intramural title.
