Capacity homecoming crowd watches Titans bite the dust By BERNADETTE CARVER Staff Writer The threatening weather didn’t stop the Homecoming game for the ECSU Vikings. The rain came and the spectators were running back to their cars for umbrellas and raincoats to protect them from the damp weather. The rain stopped and people began to arrive from everywhere. They came from all parts of North Carolina and other states. The parking lots of the stadium were completely filled with cars. The stands were crowded with alumni, undergraduates, faculty and fans of the Viking team. The fences around the field were filled with standing spectators who wanted desperately to watch the game. Before the game started, Mannor High School from Virginia played Stacy Lat- tisaw’s top hit, “Let Me Be Your Angel.” They per formed a dance routine, too: “Shake Your Pants.” Their performances were good. In the first half, the Vikings scored three touchdowns and also received the extra points. THe Vikings led 24-0 during half time. The ECSU marching band performed and was accompanied by “dancing bear,” Felix Ward. They concluded their per formance by playing their theme song, “Jesus is Love.” The Vikings returned to the field, and scored another touchdown, the last one of the day. The Vikings took a 31-0 win over Saint Paul. The Homecoming was rated satisfactory, according to some Alumni and students. One alumna said, “overall the people were into the game and enjoying themselves, but some of the time, the people who were on line for a type of sorority were in the way.” They were parading in front of the stands speaking to their big sisters and brothers. “The noise was distracting,” she added. Another alumna stated, “the school needs to show more spirit.” This is per taining to the alumni as well as the undergraduates. “We need to support the team and give them a little more recognition, because they are playing good ball.” She said that it was fine for the people on line to parade around, but it should not be done at a Homecoming game. An ECSU junior said that the people were not very enthusiastic about the game. He also said that the people behind him were making loud noises and were also throwing ice and popcorn, which was very annoying. Other than that, he felt the game was O.K. A freshman felt that the game was nice because ECSU won. He said the people were supporting the team and the out of town band gave tremendous performances before and after the game. He also stated that the ECSU band should practice more and put more effort into their sound rather than their steps. “Their music is not distinct,” he said. The crowd that showed up for the Homecoming game was not disappointed. The Vkings defeated the Saint Paul Titans 31-0. “Go Vikings Go!” % / J if- m.
