VANS ATTENDED SPRING 2002 SOUTHERN REGIONAL
ORIENTATION WORKSHOP AND WILL PARTICIPATE IN
SUMMER 2002 NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

Over Spring Break March 14-
18, 2002,11 VANS were selected
to participate in the Southern Re
gional Orientation Workshop
(SROW) for student orientation
leaders at Northwestern University
in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The
annual workshop is held to provide
training, campus resource informa
tion and networking for students
and professionals who coordinate
new student orientation workshops
at colleges and universities in
Region VI, which is comprised of
schools in Alabama, Georgia,
Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mis
sissippi, North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Tennessee. Over
1,200 students from 40 colleges
and universities were in atten
dance. The VANS participated in
the banner competition, orienta
tion t-shirt swap and the opening
session role call. Mrs. Deborah
Branch, Director of the Counsel
ing and Testing Center and staff
members. Rev. Roosevelt Askew
and Mrs. Carolyn Williams, also
attended the SROW meeting.
Approximately 35 VANS will
participate in NSO this year. They
are planning to incorporate a
number of new ideas to this year’s
Summer 2002 NSO sessions
scheduled for June 20-21, July 11 -
12, and August 22-23, 2002.
