There are 2,374 students enrolled at
WSSU. Of this number there are 1,264 Day
Students, yet, only seven belongs to the
Day Student Organization. The Day Stu
dent Organization is designed to inform
students who are not campus residents of
the many happenings at WSSU.
Many WSSU students think that you
have to be a native of Winston-Salem, to be
classified as a Day Student.
According to the University, a Day Stu
dent is any students who lives off campus
and is a fulltime student. Any student liv
ing off campus can become part of the
organization. It does not matter if you are
from another city but rather that you lived
off campus.
Meetings are held once a week to inform
Day Students of what is going on at the
meeting. Students are allowed to voice
their opinions about how dav students can
become involved with on campus ac
tivities. Some of the activities of the
organization include Bake Sales, Candy
Grams, and Raffles.
Each year a Miss Day Student is also
picked. Miss Day Student represents the
organization off-campus and on-campus
activities, such as the Coronation Ball,
Mini Parade, and the Homecoming parade
and game. The purpose of the Mini
Parade, is to get students involved for Red
and White Day. The Day Student
Organization also helps the pepclub, band,
and SGA prepare for the Mini-parade.
One Goal of the Day Student Organiza
tion is to attempt to get total participation
of Day Student in all WSSU functions. To
this end, the Day Students have in the past
sponsored surveys to get the feelings of
Day Students on ways to compile a dictory
for all the WSSU Day Students. This was
done in an attempt to inform them about
what is happening on a specific day and
time.
