Ella Cobb Camp President*s Home The Ella Cobb Camp President’s Home was dedicated on the beautiful sunny afternoon of April 22. Following the dedication service, guests were invited to a reception and tour of the home. I Dr. Jerry F. Jackson president of Chowan College, expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Texie Camp Marks, (standing, right), daughter of Ella Cobb Camp, at the recent dedication of the Ella Cobb Camp President’s Home on the campus of Chowan. Mrs. Jerry Jackson, (left), looked on as Mrs. Texie Marks presented the keys to the home to Dr. Jackson. Seated from right are: Rev. John Felix Arnold, Frances Marks Arnold, Paul Camp Marks, and Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, president emeritus of Chowan College. The dedication brought out many community members, and ap proximately 35 members of the Camp-MarksfamilyfromSoutharr^- ton County, Virginia. Dr. Jackson thanked the Ruth Camp Campbell Foundation and Camp-Younts Foundation, which provided substantial funding for the renovation of the president's home. The Chowan College Choir entertained the guests during the service. Standing to right are some of the contributors to the house and grounds: Martha Jenkins, interiors. Jack Hassell, who directed the building of the house for the college, MikeBasnight, ofW. H. Basnight t Company, Charles H. Albritton, The Albritton Company, and Gary Lucks, UnitedTurf. Also recognized were IV. D. Boone, Jr., architect from Charlotte, Rose Brothers Paving Co., and Lazy Hill Ranch in Colerain. Mrs. Texie Camp Marks paused for a moment to pose with President Emeritus Bruce E. Whitaker, under whose administration renovation for the Ella Cobb Camp home was begun. The house was erected In Memory of ELLA COBB CAMP by her daughter Texie Camp Marks, Family andFriends-1989. Ella Virginia Cobb Camp (1861-1938) and her husband, Paul Douglas Camp (1849-1924) were instrumental in the cultivation and promotion of industrial, educational, civic, cultural, and reli gious life, beginning in their native Southampton County, Virginia, but extending far beyond the geographical cortfines of that region. Their philanthropic and benevolent interests were extended to nu merous institutions and individuals. Those same interests have continued to be exhibited in the lives and influence of their children. Mrs. Texie Marks, the sole surviving daughter of Ella Cobb and Paul Douglas, serves on the Board of Visitors at Chowan College, and maintains a thriving interest in the mission and well-being of the college.
