Four lifetime honorary trustees named to board by executive committee The Executive Committee of the Chowan College Board of Trustees has appointed four Honorary Life Trustees to serve on the board. E. L. Hollowell, of Edenton, Charles Revelle, Sr., of Murfreesboro, Dewey W. Wells, of Winston-Salem, and H. £>ouglas White, of Rocky Mount were honored at the April meeting of the Board of Trustees. In making the announcement. President Jerry F. Jackson remarked on the outstanding contributions each of the Life Trustees has made to the goals and mission of Chowan College throughout the years. E. L. Hollowell is a native of Chowan County, and the retired president of Chowan Veneer Co. Inc. in Edenton. He is cunently serving as Chairman of the Board of the Salvation Army, and is active in the Chowan County Cancer Society. He is an active member the Edenton Baptist Church, who% he serves as a Deacon. Hollowell received the Chowan Ccdlege Distinguished Service Award in 1976. He has served as the chairman of several suc cessful campaigns for fimd-raising on the Chowan College Board of Trustees and re tired from the board in 1989. He is married to Agnes Hollowell, and they have one daughter. Charles L. Revelle Sr., is a retired agri businessman who is married to Martha Sey mour Revelle, firom Augusta County, Va., and a Chowan College alumna. They live in Murfreesboro and have two sons, Charles L. Revelle, Jr., and John Paige Revelle. Revelle is active in the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, where he has served as chairman of the Board of Deacons and Finance commit tee. A past chairman of Chowan College’s Board of Trustees, Revelle has been active in a number of drives to secure financial sup port for Chowan. Dewey W. Wells is an attorney with the law firm of Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge, and Rice in Winston-Salem. Wells became involved in the life of Chowan College when he lived in Elizabeth City, where he was an attorney and active in civic activities there. He currently serves as trustee for North Carolina Heritage Trust, and is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Win ston-Salem. Married to Ann Wells, they reside in Winston-Salem and have five children. H. Douglas White has served over 20 years on the Chowan Board of Trustees in cluding a number of times as chairman. He also has served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. A native of Colerain, Mr. White received the bachelor of science degree from Wake Forest He retired as manager of the Belk Tyler store in Rocky Mount after 32 years service with the store. White is active in the First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount where he has served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school teacher and adult department superin tendent His community service includes presidentof the Old Community Chest Rocky Mount United Fund, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Rocky Mount Merchants’ Association; chairman of the Salvation Army Board; member of the Advisory Board of Planter’sBankandTrustCo. inRocky Mount; and on the Board of Directors of the YMC A. Wells Board of Visitors members contribute time and energy to Chowan The Board of Visitors of Chowan College is a group of outstanding men and women who enjoy positions of leadership and influ ence in their respective communities as well as on a regional or national level. These individuals are selected on the basis of their willingness to share their ideas and resources for the common good of the college. These distinguished citizens believe in the value of Christian higher education and the expressed mission of Chowan College and are informed about its accomplishments and objectives. The Board of Visitors exists under the authority of the resolution adopted by the Board of Trustees of Chowan College whereby the Board of Visitors is to consider, recommend, and provide ways and means to help the college accomplish its long-term objectives. Members of the Board of Visitors are to be supportive of the college finan cially, serve in an advisory cjqiacity to the Board of Trustees and the President in the advancement of the college, and interpret the college to individuals and groups with whom they have influence. In order to fulfill the purpose of the Board of Visitors the mem bers: • Assist the Board of Trustees and the President in maintaining and enhancing the quality and excellence of Chowan College; • Know the programs and needs of Chowan College and are able to identify corporate, foundation, and other sources of financial suppcxt; • Serve as ambassadors of goodwill for the college in their local communities and in respective professions and business inter preting the college to the college’s publics; • Keep the college informed of the atti tudes, (pinions, concerns, and expectations of the alumni, parents, and friends of the college; • Promote the philosophy and ideas of Chowan College as an institution of Chris tian higher education. Alumni, parents, and friends of the college not serving a current Trustee term are eli gible for membership on the Board of Visi tors which consists of no more than 60 mem bers. An individual becomes a member of the Board of Visitors upon recommendation to the President by the Nominating Committee of the Board of Visitors and subsequent elec tion by the Board of Trustees. Members are appointed for four-year terms. New appointments are made in the fall of the year, so that the four years will begin on January 1 of the calendar year following appointment A member is eligible for re >- pointment at the expiration of his or her tei i.
