Class of 1956
Clarice Galloway has been named
Teacher of the Year for 1990-91 at
Lake Whales Florida Senior High
School. She has been a health and
physical education teacher there since
1963.
Martin M. Mikulas, Jr. is a pro
fessor in the department of aerospace
engineering science at the University
of Colorado. He will also assist the
director of the Space Construction
Institute in formulating and imple
menting research plans for on-orbit
construction of large space structures.
Class of 1959
Willard (Bill) C. Meiggs, Jr. is a
retired corporate officer of Meiggs
Hardware Incorporated. Bill is a Dea
con and Usher at Great Bridge Baptist
Church, he is also a 32nd degree Ma
son and a Shriner. He and his wife
Carol have two sons.
Class of 1961
Wallace Green has been named to
the Spring Hope advisory board of
Unity Bank and Trust Company. Wal
lace is president and owner of Green
Services Incorporated.
Class of 1969
Sallie Wood White and John Skin
ner Acai were united in marriage Janu
ary 19, 1991. Sallie is employed as a
secretary for the City of Roanoke
Rapids.
Class of 1971
Robert E. McClellan is a graphic
specialist for Duke Power Company
in Charlotte. He is married to Diane
and they have a daughter Robin bom
on June 13,1990.
Class of 1972
Michael R. Peede is Director of
Quality at RYOBI Motor Products
Corporation. He and his wife Deborah
have two sons, Scott and Brian.

ated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Nurs
ing fi^m Barton College. Selected for
the 1990-91 edition “Who’s Who In
American Nursing” and 1990 “Ameri
can Collegiate Nursing Award” from
the U.S. Acheivement Academy. She
is Director of Surgical Services, Com
munity Hospital of Rocky Mount.
Rick Lyn Murrow and Joanne
Henson were united in marriage No
vember 24, 1990. The couple live in
Summerville where Rick is self-em
ployed and owner of A-1 Stump-Bust-
ers.
Class of 1980
Jeanne Kelley Carney and her hus
band Christopher have a daughter bom
October 19, 1990 named Kelly Anne.
Jeanne has left her position as assis
tant vice president of technical serv
ices as F.B.C. Inc. to start her own
consulting service.
Class of 1984
Tracy Lynn Brett and Paul Pearce
were united in marriage December 22,
1990. Tracy resigned from her posi
tion as an assistant head nurse at
Roanoke-Chowan Hospital to move
to Jackson, Tennessee.
Charles John Overly and Regina
Brinson were united in marriage De
cember 8, 1990. The couple will re
side in New Bem.
Class of 1986
Stephen Lee Fant and Katherine
Sheetz were married December 29,
1990. Stephen is a safety specialist in
the Civil Service at Fort Bliss in El,
Paso, Texas.
Macy Arnold Foster n and Pamela
Jo Robertson were united in marriage
December 1, 1990. After attending
Chowan, Macy attended Elon and is
self-employed. Pamela and Macy re
side in Epsom, N.C.
Gwendolyn Spivey White and her
husband Tom became parents of Lind
sey Bryan bom October 14, 1990.
Class of 1990
Polly Denise (Dee Dee) Babb and
Charles R. Stanfill were united in
marriage January 24, 1991. Dee Dee
is currently serving in the U.S. Army,
stationed in Ft Belvoir, Virginia. Her
husband Charles is currently a student
at Chowan.
Newspaper founder
dies in New York
James L. Knight, Chairman of
Knight-Ridder, Inc. newspapers chain,
died February 5 in New York. He was
one of two brothers who built a
family-owned newspaper chain into
one of the country’s largest.
Both the Knight Foundation and the
James L. Knight Charitable Trust have
contributed substantially to Chowan’s
graphic communications department
over the years. The Knight Scholar
ship is an endowed scholarship estab
lished at Chowan named in honor of
James L. Knight to provide two or
more scholarships to students major
ing in printing technology.

Dr. Allen Casey
Class of 1962

Credit Union.
Previously, he
held teaching
positions in

sor of history at
the University of Maine. He now
teaches part-time at Christopher
Newport College in Virginia. He
has taught management at Tho
mas Nelson Community College
and held other teaching positions.
Allen has held executive posi
tions at Langley Federal Credit
Union in Hampton, and at the
Naval Supply Center Federal
Credit Union in Norfolk prior to
coming to Atlantic Fleet.

two children and lives in the
Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
HOBBIES: Calls his work his
major hobby, but tries to read
every once in a while. He also
follows ACC basketball when
ever he can (is waiting for the
retum to days like those of
“Bones” McKinney at Wake
Forest).

Alumnus Britton
dies in accident
Menola, N.C., a
member of the
Chowan College
Board of Visitors,
died recently in an
airplane accidentin
Alabama.
Mr. Britton was a long-time sup
porter of Chowan, serving as a trustee
and most recently on the board of visi
tors. He was executive manager of the
YKK Corporation’s Dublin, Georgia
plant.
While at Chowan College he was
elected to Phi Theta Kappa.
Mr. Britton is survived by wife,
Mary Anne; son, Tim Britton and his
wife who reside in Ahoskie; two
daughters, Malinda, of Leonia, N.J.
and Michelle, of Rocky Mount.
