Chowan welcomes new trustees to board Felix McDaniel Dennis Bazemore Sam Ewell Judith Hand Sherwin Suddreih Linda Chandler Edwin Williams Felix C. McDaniel, of Henderson, has been elected by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina to serve on the Chowan College Board of Trus tees. McDaniel is the vice president for finance of Americal Corp. in Hender son. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson where he serves on the board of deacons. He previ ously served on the Chowan College Board of Visitors. He also serves on the Salvation Army Board. He is married to Janice McDaniel and they have two children, Stanley C. McDaniel of Durham and Brian W. McDaniel of Winston-Salem. Sam E. Ewell, Jr., of Enfield, is the president and owner of Ewell Ford Sales Inc. in Enfield a member of the Enfield Baptist Church. He also serves on the board of directors of Enfield Savings and Loan Association. He is married to Kay Ewell and they have two children, Sam, age 16 years and Elizabeth, age 11 years. Judith M. Hand, of Roanoke Rapids, is vice president of Dollar Wholesale Company in Weldon and a member of the Rrst Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. She served on the Women’s Ministries Board of Palm Beach Atlantic College in West Palm Beach, Florida; on the President’s Advisory Council of Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest; and as a member of the Jim Ponder Evangelis tic Association in Orlando, Florida. She is married to William (Bill) Hand and the couple reside in Roanoke Rapids. Reverend Dennis Bazemore, of Wallace, is pastor of First Baptist church in Wdlace, N.C. He recieved the B.A. degree from Campbell Uni versity and the M. Div. from South eastern Theological Seminary. He pre viously served on the Chowan Col lege Board of Visitors and also served one prior term on the board of trus tees. He is married to Linda Callis Bazemore, and they have two chil dren, Hannah Rae, age 4 and Stephen, age 6. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bazemore, of Ahoskie. Sherwin Suddreth, of Cary, is the president of Innovative Sciences/ Shared Learning, Inc. in Cary and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cary. He serves on the board of dea cons of Cary First Baptist. He is married to Jennifer Suddreth and they have two children, Geoffrey and Kristen. Linda S. Chandler, of Durham, previously served a term on the college’s Board of Visitors. Chandler is a member of the First Baptist Church in Ehiiiiam where she serves as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and chairperson of the search committee for minister of education. She has served as a member of the board of trustees on the Baptist State Convention of N.C.; the board of Baptist Homes; and held offices in the Yates B^tist Association. She is married to Gordon Chandler and they have three children, Gordon Lee Chandler of Durham, Judith C. Crouse of Winston-Salem, and Ann C. Home of Wilmington. Honorary Trustee Edwin L. Williams, of Kinston, long-time supporter of Chowan Col lege, has been named an Honorary Lifetime Trustee to the college. Mr. Williams served five four-year terms as a member of the board of trustees. He served for 17 years as a member of the Executive committee of the board, including two years as chairman of the executive committee. He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Kinston. A retired roofing contractor, Mr. Williams is active in the community and has served in the Chamber of Commerce, on the Indus trial Commission, the United Way, and board of directors of the Kiwanis Qub. From Sanford, N.C., he was mar ried to the late Grace Williams. New Visitors serve four-year terms Nannie Mae Herdon Nannie Mae Herndon, of Duittam, has been appointed to serve on the Chowan College Board of Visitors. Herndon is chairman of the board of directors for Carolina’s chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation and on the Durham chapter of the King’s Daughters Board as chaimian of the homes and grounds commitee. She is a member of the Watts Street B^tist Church where she serves on the board of deacons. She is also chairman of the Denominational Relations commit tee for the church; serves on the board of the Durham Women’s Qub; and is co-chairman of the fine arts conmiit- tee for the club. He received the B.S. from Campbell University, the M.Ed. and the M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He completed post doctoral work at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Coble has served as a member of the Winston-Salem University Board of Visitors since 1989; he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of 1989-90 at Campbell University; he received the Kennedy Center and North Carolina Alliance for Arts Education School Adminstrator Award in 1989; he was Superintendent of the Year, North Carolina Region 3 in 1988-89. Dr. Michael Alston Gene Rogers Dr. Michael C. Alston is a physi cian with Ahoskie Family Physicians with an office in Murfreesboro. He also provides consulting services at Chowan College twice a week in Permy Hall infirmary. He is secretaryAreasurer of the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Medical Staff and an alternate delegate for the N.C. Academy of Family Physicians. A member of the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, he and his wife, Susan, reside in Murfreesboro and have two children. Assistance Advisory Council, and di rector of the Hertford County Sym phony Association. He is a member of the Aulander Baptist Church. Married to Faye Cooke, they have three children. James Eason Dr. Larry Coble Dr. Larry Coble is superintendent of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The Honorable Gene Rogers, of Williamston, serves as a representative in the N.C. House of Representatives from District 6. He is a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Williamston. A retired educator, he is serving his second term in the House. He is married to Jean Rogers and they have three children, Jeanie Rogers of Winston-Salem, Laura Williams, of Winston-Salem, and Richard Rogers of Raleigh. James E. Eason, Jr. is vice presi dent and city executive of Southern Bank and Trust Company in Murfrees boro. He serves on the Murfreesboro Planning Board, the Murfreesboro Methodist Church. He resides in Mur freesboro. David Harris Larry Cooke Larry Cooke, of Aulander, is the president of Cooke Motor Company in Ahoskie. He serves as director of the Wachovia Bank and Trust Co., director on the National Buick Dealer David Harris is plant manager for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation Chemical Division in Conway. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the Murfreesboro Ex change Qub. A member of the Pres byterian Church, he is married to Mary Harris and they have six children.
