Chowan The Four-Year College DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT Murfreesboro, N.C. 27855 Day for Chowan garners support and gifts to the college The second annual Day for Chowan in the Roanoke- Chowan area raised $112,017 in gifts and pledges in one day of volunteers' canvassing the communities of four counties. $37,000 had already been collected in early gifts to the college. The majority of funds raised will go into the college's annual fund to be used in Chowan's transition to four-year institutional status. "We are pleased and excited about the day's results," said O. S. "Buck Suiter, one of the chairmen of the steering committee which directed the efforts of250 vol unteers. "We could not have asked for more support and cooperation from so many people in Bertie, Gates, Hert ford and Northampton Counties." Speaking to the 250 volunteers at the kick-off breakfast in Thomas Cafeteria at Chowan, President Jerry Jackson said. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing for us today." Volunteers called on over 1,000 prospective contribu- tOTS in the four counties and returned to various stations at lunchtime. When all reports were tallied, it was an nounced at a celebration dinner at the Ella Cobb Camp President's home on campus that the $100,000 goal had been reached and topped by $12,000. "We are just delighted with the results," said Lynette Bunch, co-chair of the steering committee, in announcing the total at the dinner. Over 300 people gathered at the president's home for a buffet dinner and to hear the results of the day. "I would like to thank everyone, steering committee members, team captains, solicitors, faculty and staff of Chowan College, for all they did to make Day for Chowan a success in the Roanoke-Chowan area," said E. Vincent Tilson, vice president for development at Chowan. "It is a gratifying experience to top the goal the committee had set and know there is so much support for the college in our local communities. Tyler, and Marshall Williford; Gates County: Bedford Brown, Mack Eason and Daisy Perry; Northampton County: William B. Cooley, Grady Jackson, Tom Liverman, Charles W. Stiickland, Jr., Fred Worthington. From Hertford County, members were: Kathy Beard, Raymond Benthall, Jr., Carolyn Brinkley, Helen Burleson, Dr. Earl V.
