Third Annual Day for Qiowan is Succ^ The third annual Day for Chowan, November 19, encompassed five counties this year, allowing Chowan to exceed the set goal of $125,000. In addition to the coun ties of the Roanoke-Chowan area, Southampton County and the city of Franklin were included. Over $150,000 was raised with 631 gifts and pledges. Eiason, of Murfreesboro, is vice-president of Southern Bank and Trust Company and is on the board of visitors at the college. Seventy-five citizens volunteered to serve on the steering committee for Day for Chowan, up from 39 last year. Steering committee members direct activities and enlist volunteers. County chairmen are elected to encour age people in their counties to get involved in Day for Chowan. County chairmen for this year’s Day for Chowan were as follows—Hertford: Elaine E, Myers and J.M. Eason; Gates: B.H. Brown, Mack Eason and Daisy G. Perry; Northampton: Joe D. McLean and C.J. Watson; Southampton: Texie C. Marks and A. Richard Britt. Unrestricted gifts received during Day for Chowan go to the Annual Fund and are used to help offset costs involved in the four-year transition. Gifts may also be designated to specific programs and needs. Beginning with a breakfast on November 19, Day for Chowan included a total of 401 volunteers making calls throughout the day to raise money on behalf of the college. Day for Chowan is a way to help the five communities become aware of the good things happening at the school and to further inform those who have an interest in attend ing the school. E. Vincent Tilson, vice president for development estimates the financial impact the college has on the five counties to be approximately $10 million annually.
