Aydlett, who was president of the Rotaract Club while at Chowan, is now an engineer with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Class Notes '91 Susan Jacobs will receive her BA in Music degree from Carson Newman in July 1993. '87 Sandra L. Murray married John L. Burton, II, on February 27,1993. The couple will reside in Portsmouth, Virginia. Sandra works for Atlantaic Rehabilitation Services, Inc. Douglas Adams was married December 5,1992, to Laura Waye. The couple will reside in Duluth, Georgia. '85 Todd Scruggs works as a pressman for Sherwin- Williams Graphic Arts Company. Cecil Davis has been awarded his doctorate in Pharmacy from Campbell University. '84 Greg Tutwiler would like to announce the arrival of a baby boy named Aaron Gregory, on April 26,1993. Greg owns National OJ Connection and works with his wife managing her business, Va Orden & Tutwiler, a Redkin StyUng Salon. '83 Olen Wayne Lee is engaged to marry Brenda West of Fayetteville. Olen is employed by Morganite, Inc. '76 Aaron William Tucker and Tammy Jane Sides were married on April 24,1993. Aaron is employed by McQuiddy Printing and Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. The couple will make their home in Nashville, TN. '72 Thomas Warden Riggs, Jr., received his masters degree in engineering on May 8,1993 from North Carolina State University. Tom married Laura Jarjabka on May 13,1993, and resides in St Lucia, West Indies. Tom works for Burroughs-Wellcome Pharmaceutical Company. R. Bruce Settle, III, has joined Central Carolina Bank in Roxboro as a mortgage loan officer. '71 Larry Thurston married Judith Anne Cannon on April 10,1993. The couple will reside in Chesapeake, Virginia. Larry is em ployed by the City of Virginia Beach. '70 Osborne G. Gray stepped down from the Dare County seven-member governing board to become assistant director of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. '68 Jean Carole Rawls is living in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, Virginia, with her husband and 13 year old twin sons, Eddie and Chris. '66 Robert M. Thornton graduated from the U. S. Army War College in 1992. He is currently a member of the Virginia Army National Guard and holds the rank of LTC. '65 Nancie Allen is a volunteer in mission (Missionary) at Red Bird Mission School in Beverly, Kentucky. She assists in teaching writing and drama. Dr. W. D. Morris, former Trustee Dr. Walter Desmond “W.D.” Morris, 85, a former member of the Chowan College Board of Trustees, died April 26, 1993, in Sampson County Memorial hospital, Clinton. A native of Gates County, Dr. Morris was a retired minister after 60 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton. He attended Campbell College and gradu ated from Wake Forest College. He was a graduate of Southern Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. In 1956, he received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Atlanta Law School. Dr. Morris began his ministry in Sampson and Pender counties and later served churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He was also very active in Baptist orga nizations throughout the state and was a former president of N.C. B^tist Pastors’ Conference, former general board member of the N. C. Baptist State Convention and a former executive committee member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Survivors include his wife, Nellie C. Morris; a sister, Thelma M. Dilday of Ahoskie; and two brothers, Tommie Morris of Aydlett and Thurman L. Morris of Gates. Sibyl Grimes served as Dean of Women Mrs. Sibyl J. Grimes, who served as dean of women at Chowan College from 1955-1966, died at her home in Woodland, on April21,1993. A native of Northampton County, Mrs. Grimes had also served the Northampton County Health Department for many years. Mrs. Grimes, 95, was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church, where funeral services were conducted. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter and son- in-law, Anne G. Askew and William L. Askew of the home; William Linwood Askew ni of Memphis, Tenn.; Vicki Blair Phillips of Wilson; John Henderson Grimes III of Roanc^ce Rapids; Laura Askew Wolfe of Wake Forest; and eight grandchildren. 1970 Thomas A. Clarke 1961 Rev. William "Bill" Pitt Douglas White trustee for many years H. Douglas White, 85, who served for many years on Chowan College’s Board of Trustees, died at Rocky Mount on Sun day, April 25,1993. He was bom October 11, 1907, in Colerain, a son of the late Herbert T. and Lila Sessoms White. Mr. White, an Honorary Life Member of the Board of Trustees, was a retired manager of Belk-Tyler’s with whom he was associated for 33 years. He lived in Rocky Mount for 53 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Janet Cartwright White; a daughter, Betty Jean White of the home; and a sister, Mrs. George H. Brown of Colerain. The family requests that memorials be made to the building fiind of First Baptist Church, Chowan College, or to the SaJva- tion Army. Marie Elliott, former college nurse Marie S. Elliott, 79, a retired Chowan College associate nurse, died May 8,1993, in Hertford. A nativeof Columbus County, she was a retired LPN, and served for a number of years as the official hostess of the college, in addition to her duties as associate nurse. She was a member of Hertford Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was past president of the Hertford Business and Professional Women’s Club, committee chairman for the Perquimans County Democratic Party and an honorary member of the National Parent^'eacher Association. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Frances) Smith of Portsmouth, Va.; two brothers; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
