AlumniJ\Jotes Mrs. Myrtle Ange Black of Sarosota Springs, Florida, and Winterville, is congratulated by Clayton Lewis, director of corporate and foundation relations, following her induction into The Chowanian Society. Looking on proudly is Mrs. Black's son, Jimmy, of Greenville. Keeping up with the CLASS OF ’54 Keeping up with the CLASS OF ’64 Gloria Cox Williams currently resides in Midlothian, VA, where she is a middle school coordinator and teacher at St, Michael’s Episcopal School. William Stadley, who is also a graduate of East Carolina University, operates the Heritage Drive-In in Murfreesboro. Robert E. Baggett, who received a BA degree in history from California State Univer sity after tfansferring from Chowan, is president and owner of Southern Realty, Inc., in Grafton, VA, He is the father of four sons. Robert J. Alligood is superintendent of Washington County Schools and resides in Plymouth. After transferring from Chowan, Bob received the AB degree from Guilford College and the MA and EdS degrees from East Carolina University. Lawrence W. Myers is self-employed and resides in Ahoskie with his wife, Elaine, who currently serves as chair of the Chowan Board of Trustees. They are the parents of a daughter, Paige, and they are both active in community and church affairs. Mary Lou Marker Harrell resides in New Bern and is the mother of three children. Willie Mable Johnson of Norfolk, VA, left, chats with one of her former classmates, Brinson Paul, and his wife, Lorene, of Murfreesboro. Ms. Johnson and Paul were both inducted into The Chowanian Society during the Homecoming luncheon. Paul was also recently appointed to Chowan’s Board of Visitors. k staving in touch /Uumni Happenings Joseph G. White III, is owner of Dapper Dan’s Antiques in Greenville. Julie Ward Nash is associated with Morgan and Associates, in Thomasville, where she is an agent for scheduling Christian recording artists. Vicki Baxley Camp resides in Concord, and is an executive secretary with Metrolina Nephrology Associates, PA. Jerome Lamondis, Jr., graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College after Chowan. He is now assistant general manager for Comfort Suites in Hickory. Stephen Todd Smythers received his B.A. degree from Lynchburg College after transfer ring from Chowan. He was awarded the Masters of Divinity by Lexington Theological Seminary. He is currently serving as pastor of First Christian Church of Perryville, KY. Sally Todd currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA. She is a network control operator with Standard News of Washington, D. C. Laura Cmm married Bill Waters and they currently reside in Suwanee, GA. Laura is an LPN with NEGA Medical Center and Central Home Health Care. Tracy Bradshaw is a bridge sffucture and safety inspector with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Tracy is single and lives in Franklin, VA. Glenn Welch is president and owner of Plantation Printing Company in Murrells Inlet, S. C. Tammy Taylor Gish lives in Virginia Beach, VA, where she is a registered nurse with Chesapeake General Hospital. Matvia Taylor Thompson received the B.A. degree from Meredith after graduating from Chowan. She was awarded the Master of Divinity degree by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is currently director of children’s ministries at Northside Drive Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. Janine Lovedy Pappmth lives in Charlottesville, VA, where she is an art director for Fleshman Associ ates Advertising. George Howard Drawhorn (’78) is residing in Wilson where and coaching at Fike High School. In men’s basketball, his team won the annual Christmas tournament and also claimed the conference and division 3-A sectional championships. “Slim,” as he was known at Chowan, is also the assistant ttack coach at Fike High School. Marguerite P. Pierce (’33) is now living in Pikeville where she enjoys her three children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchil dren. After graduating from Chowan in 1933, Mrs. Pierce taught English and French in the Corinth-Holder High School near Zebulon for five years prior to marrying her husband who was engaged in farming and electrical work. Diane Couch Stoner (’70) is a registered nurse and a medical facilities inspector with the Office of Health Facilities Regulation of the Virginia Department of Health. She and her husband reside in Richmond. Mrs. Betty Hopins Burgess (’74) is an executive secretary at Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Disttict. She married Martin L. Burgess, Jr., on April 7, 1989, and the couple has a son born on December 24,1993. Mrs. Carolyn Davis Sanders (’56) has been appointed Assistant Secretary Principal of the Elementary School of Westminister Academy in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Carolyn and her husband. Art, are enjoying their children and grandchil dren who live nearby. Douglas A. Miller (’64) received his B.S. degree from Old Dominion University after graduating from Chowan and also graduated from the U. S. Army Flight School to become a pilot. The father of two sons, Doug served as a combat helicopter pilot in Vietnam in 1967-68 and retired as a chief warrant officer. He is now associated with Ryan International Airlines, Inc., as a pilot for the U. S. Postal Service. Ms. Evelyn F. Pell (’71) is employed by the USDA-Tobacco Division as a tobacco grader. She was promoted to “set work leader “ on October 1993 (better known as “head grader”). She spends all of her spare time in England. Mrs. Donna J. Bailey Woolard (’72) married Wilham A. Woolard in October, 1993. They reside in Rocky Mount with their 10 year old son, B. J. Donna is currently the Senior Purchas ing Agent of Poultry for Fast Food Merchan diser, MC, in Rocky Mount. Jerome L. Dean has been married since August 15, 1990, to Carol Ruth Dean (Thomas). She has been a teacher of liberal arts for 16 years after receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UC. The couple has one son, Broadus Lee Dean, born May 28,1994. Mrs. Tara L. Williams (’88) married Edward H. Johnson, Jr., on November 11,1994.
