Family Day ‘96 provides wide variety of activities With the addition of new events, great food, fantastic weather and a huge increase in attendance. Family Day ‘96 provided students and families with a truly memorable event. After an early morning registration at the gazebo, students and parents enjoyed conversation with faculty over coffee and donuts at the faculty open house in the Braves Den. Department members were on hand to discuss course content and answer parents’ questions. Tours of historic Murfreesboro buildings and a visit to the historic district gift shop, operated by the Murfreesboro Historical Associa tion, were provided via trolley service and families relaxed over a beautiful brunch in Thomas Cafeteria. President Stanley Lott addressed the audience and offered the opportunity for parents to ask questions at the parents meeting held in Marks Hall Auditorium. Following the meeting, Charlie Aycock, director of alumni affairs, offered an opportunity for parents to become actively involved by serving on the Parents Council. De signed as a conduit between parents and the college for the exchange of concerns and ideas, the council will also coordinate parent activi ties in support of the college. The Chowan Braves football team hosted Frostburg State Univer sity in a packed Garrison Stadium and the Braves soccer team took on Marymount University. The day’s events culminated with a campus-wide picnic held in Squirrel Park. A pig roast, live music by the reggae band Zion Wave and games including Velcro Olympics, Moon Walk, Human Foosball, Sumo Wrestling and Pole Joust entertained family members, young and old alike. iEjl’ig 'Sm k K c r Page 12 — CHOWAN TODAY, December 1996
