Ballance ‘69 named president Alumni Association elects officers During the annual Homecoming meeting of the Alumni Association, held November 2, new officers for the 1997 calendar year and directors for the three-year term to expire December 31, 1999 were elected. Taking office January 1 are: president. Tom Ballance ’69; president elect, John Settle ’83; vice-president. Charles Pond ’62; secretary, Harry Webster '63; and past-president, Gary Williams ’65. Each will serve a one year term, to expire December 31, 1997. Ballance, as current president-elect, was the automatic nomination for president. He has served on the board several times, formerly holding both officer and director positions. Settle is a current director, whose first term on the board expires December 1996. Pond, a director whose term also expires December 1996, is a past president and multi term member of the board, a current member of the college’s board of visitors, and a former trustee. Webster, currently vice-president and a former president, is a dedicated alum who has served several terms on the board. Williams, the current president, will now serve as past-president. Another long time member of the board, he has served in several positions over the years. Newly-elected board directors include: Grover Suggs '96, Linda Moore ’90, Bois Cartwright ’53, Tonia Chatham ’95, and Twyla Duke ’73. Of the new directors, only Chatham and Duke have prior board experience. Chatham is currently serving a one-year term as secretary and Duke is returning as director after a several-year break. Suggs. Moore, and Cartwright are all first-time board members. Members who will leave the board at the expiration of their terms this year are the current past-president. Dianne Agricola '70. and three directors, Leamon Allen ’68, Cathy Averette Dixon ’84 and Lee Johnson ’70. Continuing directors, serving three-year terms that expire either in 1997 or 1998. are Jane Williams ’64, Tripp Goolsby ’67, Tammy Gish ’84, Michael Moore ’92, Jeffiey Grant ’94, Bobt^- Deacon ’94, Ellen White ’69, Mar\- Jo Williams ’69, Raymond Warren ’66, and Dick Tumer'66. The nomination process for the 1998 alumni board begins this coming February. If you are interested in serving or would like to nominate someone for consideration, please forward your name or nomination by January 31, 1997. Nominees must meet two criteria First, each nominee must be in good standing. To meet the requirements of good standing, each alum must have completed at least OTie semester in a two-year program or two semesters in a four-year pr(^ram and have either graduated or been eligible for continued enrollment at their time of with drawal. Second, each nominee must have excelled in a chosen profession, made a significant contribution to our society through their work or volunteer efforts, or in another way brought honor to, or assisted, the college in its mission of Christian higher education. While the presentation is not until next October, the nominating committee is scheduled to begin their work in February. Therefore, the association requests all nomina- tiais by January 31, 1997.
