Members breathe new life into Parents Association Assembling from several states, a small group of parents met February 8 in the Presidents Dining Room to discuss goals for the Chowan College Parents Association, draft a provisional constitution and reestablish the govemmg coimcil. The primary purpose of the association and its council is to provide a friendly conduit for the exchange of information between parents, faculty, administration, students, alumni and friends. Association members include all parents of current students and any parent desiring to continue membership in the organization beyond the graduation of a child. Specific functions of the association include: 1) informing parents about college activities, policies, programs, concerns and plans for the future; 2) providing parents a means to express observa tions, suggestions, or concerns about college programs and plans; 3) supporting the changing relationships between parents and students; 4) providing a way for parents of both present and past students to maintain a close relationship with Chowan and each other; and 5) promoting parental support for Chowan’s annual giving program and other college activities. Provisional council officers elected at the February meeting are President Donald Wiles of Columbia, Md and Vice President Mrs. Betsy Miller of Wake Forest, N.C. The secretary, by virtue of position, is Charlie Aycock, Director of Alumni Services and Parent Fimd Coordinator. Other members of the initial council include Ms Betty Edwards, Pendleton, N.C., Rev. Wayne Miller, Wake Forest, N.C. and Mr and Mrs Rodney Weston, Hopewell, Va. Ultimately, the council aspires to govern the association with twenty parent families, including five parent families from each class of current students. New alumni directory to be published Have you ever tried to get in touch with a former classmate, only to discover that the most current address in your listing is eight years old? In celebration of Chowan’s 150th Anniversary, an impressive 1998 Chowan College Alumni Directory will soon be available to help you locate old friends. Scheduled for release during Spring ‘98, the new directory will include the most up-to-date and complete reference of more than 9,500 Chowan College alumni ever compiled! The comprehensive volume will include current names, addresses, phone numbers, academic data and business information. Homecoming ’97 plans continue The Board of Directors of the Chowan College Alumni Association met February 12 to discuss plans for Homecoming ‘97. Scheduled for October 17-18, tentative Friday plans include an alurtmi golf outing and an evening reception honoring reunion classes. Saturday events include the Homecoming parade, football game, alurtmi luncheon, armual association meeting, a possible tailgate party with various areas for reunions and a Silver Armiversary Dinner during the evening. Harris will soon begin researching and compiling information for the new edition by mailing a questionnaire to each alum.
