Ginger K. Trtcomb Windham '74, Kannapolis, NC, is the clinical director of Maternity Services and Women's Center at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC. Cindy Phelps Patrick '75, Richmond, VA, and her husband, Jim, are moving their family to Columbus, Ga. The couple has four daughters, including Stacy Vanderhider '98. Patrick works from her home, serves her church through youth groups and just completed two years as Christian Women's Club Chair. Gail Lynch Manning '76, Greenville, NC, teaches third grade for Pitt County Schools. David 'Lynn' Smith '82, Kernersville, NC, began his own company. The father of four is married to Robin. He writes, “Tell Coach Surface I said 'Hello' and hope to see him soon." Spencer Dillard '83, Rich mond, VA, is a mid-Atlantic sales manager for Bodek & Rhodes Corp., a golf apparel firm. Dillard and his wife, Carla, have one son and a new daughter, born Dec. 18. In addition, the ceramicist was selected from a pool of fifty applicants to receive one of thirteen visual Regional Artist Project Grants from the Beaufort (bounty (N.C.) Arts Council to produce his salt-fired teapots in porcelain. Harriet McCullough, presided as juror for the Suffolk Art League/ Suffolk Fine Ans Commission’s Suffolk Student Art 1998 exhibition at the Suffolk Museum in Virginia. library news library Sue Harris, a graduate student at East Carolina Unhrersity, was selected by the faculty in the ECU department of Ubrary studies and educational technology to receive the Mildred D. Southwick Scholarship Award for the 1997-98 academic year. Last fall, Harris was awarded the North Carolina Library Associadon’s Memorial Scholarship at the biannual NCLA Conference in Raleigh. High Road Production Company of Toronto, Canada is shooting the segment for the Discovery Channel. Stephenson is the author of Gatling A Photographic Remembrance. writing lab Sarah Davis presented her paper, “Something from Nothing: The Story (1 love to tell) of the Development of the Writing Lab at Chowan College,” at the annual Southeast Writing Center Associa tion Conference held April 23-25 at Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga. Congratulations! 1998 Excellence in Teaching Award Dorothy Wallace associate professor of business Wallace was selected for the distinctive honor by her peer group of full-time faculty members based on her conscientiousness and dedication to the teaching profession, repuution for effeaiveness as an instructor, creative and innovative classroom techniques, relationship to other faculty members and students, availability during office hours, professional growth, effectiveness as a role model and participation in extracurricular activities associated with the college. The award was presented during commencement ceremonies. 1998 Teacher of the Year Mike Steczak assistant professor of graphic communications Sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of Alpha Chi National Academic Honor Society, Steczak was presented with the organization’s inaugural tribute during the annual Awards Day ceremony. The designation is decided by a vote of the student body based on a superior grasp of subject matter, outstanding presentation of subject matter, helpfulness inside and outside of the classroom, advising abilities and co-curricular involvement (clubs, spons, etc.). 14
