MURFREESBORO - Annual choral tours carry the music ministry of Chowan College far beyond the boundaries of Hert ford County, or even the Roanoke- Chowan area. The Girls’ Ensem ble provides music and Inspira tion for Baptist Assoclatlonal meetings and other significant occasions. Instrumental music provided by Chowan’s band sets the scene for pageants, parades and athletic events. Concerts are held throughout the school year, especially at Christmas and Easter. These are merely a few of the ways that the Chowan College Choir, the Chowan Girls’ Ensem ble, the Chowan College Touring Choir, Chowan College’s band and other musical organizations composed of students at Chowan have come a long way during re cent years In establishing them selves as permanent instruments for cultural service in the area. Supervising this varied pro gram of music and culture is (See MUSIC, Page 15) u 1957 CHOWAN GRADUATE—John Powell has been em ployed as a Linotype operator on The Herald since his graduation from Chowan College School of Graphic Arts. He, his wife, and two children reside in Ahoskie. Chowon graduates also employed by The Herald are Bobby Mc Daniel and Mary Jane Daughtry. The former works in the commercial printing department and Miss Daughtry is o Justowriter operator. Many newspaper plants and print ers throughout the state and this area now employ alumni of the School of Graphic Arts.
