Experienced Newspaper Executive Takes Graphic Arts School Helm MURFREESBORO - A news paper executive with 20 years experience as editor and pub lisher in the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee and Florida, Malcolm Jones has become director of the famed Chowan College School of Graphic Arts. He served as general manager of the Elkin Tribune just prior to becoming the second director in the history of the School of Graphic Arts and also serves as a director of the North Carolina Press Association. A veteran of World War II service with the U.S. Navy, he is a graduate of the Navy School of Photography at Pensacola, Fla., and of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He is also a business and ac counting graduate of Central Business College, Kansas City, Mo., and has won numerous awards for typography, advertis ing and photography. Previous experience includes more than eight years as adver tising director for theOakRidge, Tenn., Oak Ridger; four years as editor, general manager and part owner of the Mebane Enter prise; assistant publisher and associate editor of the Galax Ga zette, Galax, Va.; advertising di rector for the Town News of Pom pano Beach, Fla.; display adver tising staff member, theSentinel- Star, Orlando, Fla. He is successor to John Mc- Sweeney, whose retirement this summer ended the career of the man instrumental in establish ing the nationally famed School of Graphic Arts and guiding it to recognition as one of the world’s outstanding institutions preparing people for challenging careers as eitors, publishers, printers and teachers of news paper mechanical production. MURFREESBORO -Anewbook printed and published by the Cho wan College School of Graphic Arts, “Southern Baptists in Christian Education,” was re leased this summer during busi ness sessions of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools. Its author. Dr. H. I. Hester of Liberty, Mo., has also written numerous definitive volumes of Biblical studies and is among pioneers in work of the Associa tion of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools, serving as its sec- retary-treasurer for 20 years. Presiding during sessions at Furman University whenthebook was released was Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, president of Chowan College ^o is also president of the association, an organization of 72 member institutions lo cated from the east coast to Cal ifornia. Previous publications of the School of Graphic Arts include “A History of Chowan College,” a 330-page volume co-authored by former college chaplain Ed gar V. McKnight of Greenville, S. C., and the Rev. Oscar Creech of Ahoskie.
