Warrenton Co-Ed Receives Chowan Version Of Oscar WARRENTON - A success story, starting with her mother’s guidance as a mere toddler and nurtured by Warrenton Baptist Church’s choir, reached its cli max when Gayle Harmon received Chowan College’s version of Hol lywood’s “Oscar.” special ceremonies in Cho wan’s football stadium, attended by the college’s 1,302 students, along with the faculty, admini stration and many other friends, set the scene for Gayle to receive the college’s “Outstanding Dramatist” award. She had just returned from touring northeastern North Car olina and southeastern Virginia, taking Children’s Theatre pro ductions to more than 4,000 public school children, sang starring roles in “Showboat” and other Broadway-type musicals, starred in every Chowan Players’ staging since becoming aChowan student and - as the reigning Miss Warren County - competed this summer for the Miss North Carolina title.
