Reduced Tuition Offered Senior Citizens This Year Beginning in the fall Chowan College, as a community service, will offer reduced tuition fees for persons 65 and over. Tuition for Golden Agers enrolled in any college course for credit will be $10 per semester hour, stated Dr. B. Franklin Lowe, Jr., Chowan’s academic dean. They may audit a course for $5 per semester hour. This is one-third the regular rate for special students of $30 and $15 respectively. Lowe said the college “recognizes there are Golden Agers who for personal satisfaction would like to take college courses. Some may even wish to work toward a degree. We also recognize that most Golden Agers are living on fixed incomes, and consequently may not be able to afford higher tution rates.” Chowan, a two-year, church- related college, offers opportunities in 11 professional fields: business, English, fine arts (music, drama, dance, art), graphic arts, photography, health and physical education, languages, mathematics, religion and philosophy, science, and social science. The fall semester will open with registration August 27 and close December 19. The spring semester, 1976, is January 14- May 14. Additional information is available from Dean Franklin ■Lowe, Chowan College, Murfreesboro, N. C. 27855. English Prof Is Honored During the summer, Chowan hosted more groups for workshops, camps and clinics than probably ever before in its history. Earl Dilday led in the planning and served as director of summer programs which served approximately 2,900 children and young people. Here he talks to a student who attended the workshop for high school student council officers. Dr. B. F'ranklin Lowe, Chowan’s academic dean, says Chowan offers reduced tuition fees for Golden Agers, persons 65 and over. Mrs. Undine Barnhill, professor of English at Chowan College who resides in Scotland Neck, has been initiated into an international organization for teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Membership in the organization is by invitation and is reserved for those teachers the international society considers to be outstanding educators. Mrs. Barnhill was initiated into its membership on Saturday, May 3 at a regularly scheduled meeting at the Town and Country Restaurant in Williamston. Among its purposes, the organization seeks to honor women who have evidenced a potential for distinctive services in any field of education, to sponsor and support desirable educational legislation and initiate legislation in the interests of women educators, and to endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries. Mrs. Barnhill came to Chowan in 1965 after teaching at Scotland Neck High School for 13 years. She received her B. A. degree from Meredith and M. A. degree from East Carolina University. She did further research and study in English and history at Harvard University. Mrs. Barnhill has also done considerable foreign travel and study. The 1973 Chowan annual. The Chowanoka, was dedicated to her.
