Wynn St- Murfreesboro, N-.W Young students explore . world of science Twenty-seven students in grades 6-9 tried their hand at physics, chemistry and computer science experiments during Science Enrichment Week June 17-21 sponsored by Chowan’s Science Depart ment. Jim Dewar, the coordinator, and J.P. Harris taught biology; Dr. Garth Faile, chemistry; and Mrs. Phyllis Dewar, computer science. Dewar said the heart of science week is providing the lab experience to the students, to give them additional exposure to science beyond what they get in school. “The students spend most of their time from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. involved in science in the laboratory,” Dewar said. Dewar said the goal is to open up science to ths average student. He said the students enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. “There’s no pressure, and no grades are given. Everyone can experience success,” he noted.
