Davis received the Tidewater Chapter Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) Scholarship offered a student who is excelling in computer studies in the eastern area of North Carolina and Virginia. Her parents, the Rev. Donald L. and Mary Anne Davis, are missionaries to Uruguay, where Karen received her schooling before coming to Chowan in 1987. Karen was recommended for the scholarship by her professor, Hattie Jones, who called her an outstanding overall student with superior computer skills. At Chowan, Karen was cited each semester for academic achievement and named to Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges. She was president of the Baptist Student Union/Campus Christian Fellowship and DPMA.
