Freshmen and transfer students will arrive Saturday, August 25 and will be welcomed by ftesident Jerry F. Jackson in the Helms Center. The three days of orientation will include a social orientation on Saturday evening for students, meetings with faculty advisors, dinner on the Campus Green with entertainment by Steve Trash, magician, musical entertainment at the Alumni Gazebo, and a President's reception for new and transfer students at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Jackson. Faculty and staff prepared for the fall opening with a workshop in Marks Hall Auditorium on August 23 and 24. The workshop was led by Dr. Jackson and Dr. B. Franklin Lowe Jr. vice president for academic affairs. A faculty/staff family picnic was held at Lakeside Student Center on August 22. The faculty and staff also attended a 'working banquet' on August 23 focusing on the 'Freshman Year Experience.' The Chowan Board of Trustees will meet September 7 and 8 in Raleigh, and are expected to consider the recommendation of the Four-Year Study Committee that Chowan return to a four-year institution. A number of special events are planned for the fall semester this year. Fall Convention will be held on September 5, and observance of Founder's Day with the dedication of the Susan Parker Kerr Gazebo will take place on October 11. Homecoming is set for October 13, with the class of 1965 planning a reunion on October 12. The Chowanian Society will also meet on Homecoming Day, and the Hall of Fame Banquet for athletics will be held that night. The dedication of the men's residence formerly called West Hall to be named Dunn Hall in honor of Charles Kelly Dunn, Jr. and in memory of Laura Jane Hardison and Charles Kelly Dunn, Sr. will take place on Homecoming Day. Campus Evangelism Week is scheduled for October 29 through November 2. Parents' Day will be held on November 10 and the dedication of the Krueger School of Graphic Communications will take place that day. Mid-term break will be October 12- 24, and Thanksgiving Holidays will be November 21-26. Final exams will be given December 15-21, and Christmas Convocation will be held on December 5. Christmas holidays begin at the end of examination schedule on December 21.
