Chowan prof named
to grade test scores
Dr. Garth Faile, Chowan College pro
fessor of science, has been selected to
participate in the annual reading and
scoring of advanced placement examina
tions in chemistry.
Each year the advanced placement
(AP) program, sponsored by the College
Board, gives hundreds of thousands of
capable high school students an oppor
tunity to take rigorous college-level
courses and examinations.
Based on their performance, the stu
dents receive credit and/or advanced
placement when they enter college.
More than 695,000 examinations in
16 academic disciplines were evaluated
by more than 2,800 faculty consultants
from high schools and universities
across the nation.
Drawn from various ethnic groups and
from nearly every state, these consul
tants are some of the best high school
and college educators in the country.
Dr. Wade Curry, AP program director
at the College Board, said, “At a time
when the nation is focusing on ways to
ensure and improve quality in education,
it is vital to recognize the conuibutions
of educators, like Professor Garth Faile,
who is making a commitment to educa
tion and following it through.”
Faile, chairman of the Department of
Science, joined the Chowan College
faculty in 1971.
