Late Free Throw By Durham Ices Thriller Over Tarheel Jayvees By KATHY FISHER With a foul shot by Anita Durham in the last seconds of the game, the Lady Braves edged a narrow 60-58 victory over UNC’s JV team in a fast-paced game January 30. Laura Brailsford led in the scoring by netting 11 points. She was followed by Anita Durham, Georgia Ross, and Queenie Torrence who scored 10 points each for the evening. Chowan got off to a slow start and let UNC gain a small lead. Witli eleven minutes left in the first half, Donna Hudson scored a lay-up that tied the game at 16-16. A foul sent Anita Durham to the line and put Chowan into the lead with 17-16. Chowan never gave up this lead and finished the first half Johnson, Mckay Chosen For Regional Honors By DANIEL BENDER Two Lady Braves were honored as Chowan defeated Brevard to place third in the Region Ten Volleyball Tour nament held at Louisburg College. Freshmen Christy Johnson of Hamp- tonville and Jan McKay of Chesapeake, Va. were chosen for the All-Region team. McKay was also named to the All-Tournament team. Tickets for the championship games may be ordered from the Greensboro Coliseum at $20 each for the four games for adult tickets and student books at $12 each. She scored excellent or good on 87 percent of her passes, 94 per cent of her sets, 93 percent of heir dinks and 84 percent of her serves. Johnson scored excellent or good on 92 percent of her drives to lead in that section. McKay and Johnson tied as team leader in sets with 92 percent and defense with 80 percent. Other leaders from the Lady Braves are Susan Whalen 88 percent in spikes, and Whalen and McKay 84 percent in serves and Georgia Ross 83 percent in blocks. Erin Spencer led in saves with 12, followed by McKay with 11. In additon to those mentioned, Shema Payne and Donna Hudson lettered. Others seeing action were Mary Jane Parrish and Brenda Harrison. UNC scored the first basket of the second half. Then good defensive playing kept both teams from scoring for an eight minute period. With eleven minutes left to play UNC started a comeback and tied the game at 34-34. Cho\yan regained its lead and at one time expanded it to eight points. In the last four minutes of play there was a flurry of baskets by both teams that ended with Chowan winning by two points. Mary Reilly scored eight points for the Lady Braves, Donna Hudson and Debra Brown netted five each, and Wilhemina Wilson made one point. Braves Lose on Road. FERRUM, Va.—Ferrum College limited visiting Chowan College to only 27 second-half points and handed the Braves their second basketball setback in sever games 79-63 here Thursday Dec. 7.
