SMOKE SIGNALS, November, 1992— Page 5 I —Photo D. Griffin II I Braves lose Homecoming Game By Lee Stephens Homecoming was not a pretty sight for the football team this year. It ended the Braves season with one win and seven losses. In the 39-6 loss, Chowan still couldn’t get over the turnover plague that hindered them all year. Faced by North Greenville Mounties, Chowan came out with a pass oriented offense led by Qaig Boyce, who threw for 69 yaids cxi 14 passes comfdeted. The pass nishing off the Mounties forc^ 5 interceptions. The Chowan defense, which held the Mounties to 168 yards total offense, was led by linebacker Steve Decs who compriled 13 solo and 5 assisted tackles. He also had one interception. Linebacker, Bernard Siaki, piled up 8 solo and 4 assisted tackles. The Brave stand out receiver, Silas Geoige, had 94 return yaids on the Mounties 6 punts. The Braves only touch down was scored by Chucky Ingram,on a 19 yard nin in the first Basketball Continued from Page 1 reached the “sweet sixteen” of the NJCAA tournament last season The Region X race should be competitve. As usual, Spartanbuig Methodist and Louisbuig College should be tough competitors for the tide. Also North Greenville will return after a one year absence fkm the courts. Acconding to coach Burke, these inter-conference games will be a major challenge for the team. quarter. The Brave had 69 total yards. This was the braves’ last Junior College Football game; next year commences the Braves first year as Division 3 playing only four year colleges. “Because we are the defending champions, our opponents will be that much more determined,” Buike said. “Road games will be especially challenging because most every school we play will heavily promote the game against Chowan.” The 1992-93 edition of the Chowan basketball team should prove to be exciting to watch. Coach Burke has a fine reputation of blending returning veterans with talented newcomers to form an over powering force on the basketball court. —Ftioio by Tonya Mitchell k —FhoK) by M DeMaaner —Photo by Tonya Nfitcheu Scenes from the *92 Chowan Homecoming —Photo by M.
