January 10, 1967 The N.C. Essay □SOTROT GQQO SIXCESS Entertainment Inc., better known as Steve, David, and Kurt came through again on December 16, the last night of school before the Christmas vacation.The event was none other than the famous Discotheque. The dance began after the choral concert and roared on until'two o’clock Saturday morning. Many students pitched in to set up, decorate and clean up after the festivities. The Discotheque came on strong with the recorded music, the go-go girls, and the newest attdgction go-go'girls on close circuit tele vision! Highlights of the floor shows included the jazz band, always a hit, the newly formed German Band led by Art Chompi, Bruce Stuart’s ” Oh YOU KID ”, and a singing trio from the music department. The prize for the best performan ces goes to the members of the staff and faculty who presented themselves in various slap stick salutes to the holidays. This entire video tape will go down in history! What about it, " Uncle Lou ” ? 2+2 = ??P? * * * • A motion picture involving a group of our Drama students is ’’hot off the press" and will probably be seen here at the school in the near future. A series of ten films will be made during the year. •k -k -k Among the many presents Jill Voigt received for Christmas is a priceless antique music box (ac cording to Mark) given to her by Mark. It plays "0 Come All Ye Faithful.” >v * Andy Wood lost his way to New York City over the holidays and end ed up SOMEWHERE in Florida, of all places ! * * * Our thoughts and prayers go with Steve Dalton who’s just been drafted! However, after a Theatre Literature test on Garcia Lorca several other boys will also be going soon. "Siena Sumr^er School” (con’t from p.l) auditions are available from Miss Mary Carlton, registrar. The total cost for each stu dent including travel, tuition, and living expenses will be about $450. Dr. Mennini said that the school hopes benefactors will provide money for scholarships. Before coming to the United States in 1948 for a concert tour and Carnegie Hall debut, Ciompi had concertized in Europe and taught at the Concervatorio Ben edetto Marcello in Venice. Ciompi was a member of the NBC Synphony under Arturo Toscan ini* He toured this country and Europe as violinist of the Albe- neri Trio. The trio recorded for Mercury, Music Guild and Westmin ister. From 1954 to 1964, Ciompi was head of the vit>lin department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and first violinist of its string quartet. He was on the faculty and a performing artist at the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado, and for the past two years he has participated in the Casals Festival at Puerto Rico. LIBRARY FORMS AVAILABLE WEDNESDAY Dewey T Who’s Dewey? That’s the question many library users ' are asking as the Library of Congress classification method gains increasing popularity. The N.C. School of the Arts library utilizes this method as does the University of North Carolina at Raleigh library. Mr. Van Hoven, librarian at NCSA, explains that because of the vast number of books in the major arts, a classification system with fine breakdowns was necessary. Mr. Van Hoven is presently working on his thesis to complete his master of science degree in library work. His topic requires a study of users’ opinions of the Library of Congress classification method, an area not previously investigated. (continued on p. 3 )
