Vol. 1, No. 10 North Carolina School of the Arts MODERN STUDENTS TRAVEL TO CHARLOTTE Several modern dancers have gone to Charlotte today to perform for the Charlotte Womans' Mib ic Club. ’’The program will be a lecture demonstra tion of pre-classic dance forms, their musical accompaniment, and the even tual incorporation of these rhythms into the formal musical styles of the classic period,” stated Duncan Noble, dance instructor. The program in cludes a pavanne, sarabande, gavotte, galliard, allemande, waltz, and gigue. Lee Harper, Mannie Rowe, Ellen Barter, Rusty Chambers, Georgianna Holmes, and Johnny Walker will per form. PERFORMANCE FOR PRINCESS The modern dance department was thrilled last Saturday when Princess Irene of Greece watched part of their rehearsal. They were working on ”The Demonstration” which will be per formed at the school February 22. Participating in the string sec tion will be Judith VanderTuin, viola; and Margaret Tait and Mark Ward, cel lo. In the brass section will be Danny Jones and Gary Buchanan, trum pet; Dan Ashe and James Bouldin, horn; and John Sizemore, tuba. The public opening is set for Febru ary 10. HERRING TO CALL BINGO NEXT FRIDAY Next Friday, February 10, NCSA stu dents will have the opportunity to play bingo in the auditorium at 8pm, free! Mr. William Herring , caller, will give away several prizes. No admission will be charged. UTISTS TO PRESEN AL SCXjf\ (Lt.to Rt.) Becky, Sandy, Chris, and Randy tryout the school's double B^ contraflute to be used in the recital. Students attending the weekly student recital this coming week will have an interesting and novel musical experience, as four flutists from the school present a concert of all flute music. The first work on this unusual concert will be a trio sonata by Johann Joachim Quantz. Performing will be eleventh graders Christine Nield and Rebecca Troxler, and tenth grader Randy Wilson. The piece is in five movements: Vivace, Largo Rigaudon, Vivace, and Menuett. Second on the concert will be the "Kanonische Sonatine" for two flutes, opus 31, no. 3, by Paul Hindemith, (con't on page 3)
