Third Time Around For The Force
By Deborah Riley
Staff Writer
From the looks of things, the
Fayetteville Force is going to do it right
this time. How does that saying go? Oh,
yeah, the third time’s the charm. Coach
Lohrei has signed an excellent mix of offen
sive and defensive players (several return
ing from last year’s team) for the upcoming
season.
The players most recently signed are
Brett Colborne and Nathan Grobins.
Colbome is an impressive player... he can
play defense, but he can also score. Fie is
the kind of player every team needs. He
joined the Force in February and racked up
21 points in 23 games last season. Ten of
those 21 points were goals. Colbome, along
with returning teammate. Jasen Rintala, has
been named an alternate team captain. In
three games this season, Colbome has one
assist.
A new face for the Force will be goalie
Nathan Grobins. Grobins played for the Ft.
Worth Fire the past two seasons. The Force
acquired him from the Tulsa Oilers for cash
and future considerations. He is the sec
ond goalie to sign with the Force for this
season. Grobins introduced himself to
Force fans with a shut out against the Ma
con Whoopee rookies in a scnmmage game
on Oct. 6 at the Crown.
Colin Muldoon, m his second year with
the Force, has been named the team cap
tain. Muldoon, a defenseman, played in all
70 regular season games last year. He had
two goals and ten assists for a total of
twelve points.
Chris Ford has retumed to the Force
again this season and has gotten off to a
great start. He scored three goals— a hat
trick— in the Force’s 9-2 preseason win
over the Memphis RiverKings on Oct. 11.
(A hat trick is when the same player scores
three—or more—goals in one game.) Ford
scored the team’s only regulation goals
(two) in the home (and season) opener
against the Columbus Cottonmouths on
Oct. 14. He has three goals in as many games
thus far. The team as a whole demonstrated
a winning (and determined) attitode in its
first game of the season. The Force came
away from that game with a win (Force 3,
Cottonmouths 2) after a thirteen round
shoot-out with the Cottonmouths. Rookie
C.J. Buzzell scored the final (game-winning)
goal for the Force. The Cottonmouths won
the following night (Oct. 15), however, 3
goals to 1. The Force traveled to Macon,
Georgia on Oct. 16 and won 4 goals to 3 in
another shoot-out.
The Force appears to be starting off
strong. The retuming players from last sea
son and the new players for this season
seem to be very talented. If what they say
about the third time is true, the guys should
Soccer Team Suffers From Injuries
By Thomas VVingaard

The men’s soccer team has lost some
of their starting lineup due to injuries. In
their second game of the season their team
captam, Nathan Litten, broke his foot and
is out for the rest of the season. Since
then, the new team captain, James Bennet,
and left fiillback, Jason Lightbody, will be
out for the rest of the season with broken
bones. Thomas Wingaard has also been
out for the last couple of games due to an
injury. The team has also lost another
starter in Brian Hayes.
After losing some of their most tal
ented players, the Monarchs have had to
rely on blood, sweat and tears to pull off
some wins against more talented teams.
And the Monarch “fighting spirit” of giv
ing 100% on the game field has been the
case with this team despite of their set
backs!
“I am very happy with the team and
how they have performed in the last
couple of games,” says coach Adrian
Blewitt. “Even though the team has lost
some talented players to injuries, 1 am very
