By Ashleigh Radford Editor-in-Chcif Are you tired of the same old food boring food the caf eteria serves night and day? The same “hot and healthy” meals that are hardly good, the same hot dogs, French fries, freezer burnt ice cream, and veggies for dinner that are left over from lunch that day? How often do you walk in the Caf and you think to your self “Do I have enough money to go to Taco Bell or Wendy’s?” Well, starting this fall you can start saving your money because finally Meth odist College has teamed up with Sodexho to completely renovate the cafeteria for everyone’s enjoyment next year. Starting in May, every thing from the buffet counters and the food dishes to the TVs and the window blinds will be removed from the cafeteria. Cooks will “re learn” to cook, new food preparation systems will be installed, new tables and chairs will be bought, and the food presentation will be im proved. “Everything you see today you will not be able to recognize in August. We are having a complete “makeover” of our dining service,” Dean George Blanc said. Sodexho, the company who runs the cafeteria ser vice, has agreed to provide the $475,000 that is neces sary to completely renovate the cafeteria in exchange for a contract that assures an other ten years of service. Last renovated in 1993, the cafeteria is in desperate need of a new, more modem look. Since the campus is grow ing as far as residential stu dents and residence halls, the capacity of the new cafeteria will grow too. The capacity will rise from 325 students to 387 students. There will be new bar-style seating to en joy, an alcove for semi-pri- vate dining for clubs and or ganizations, as well as new tables and chairs. Finally, what you all have been waiting for, what is in cluded in this wonderful deal? Well, we will have a new center island for a “Theme Cuisine.” Students will be able to enjoy a per sonalized dinner cooked to order. A new pizza or dering station will be available with personal pan pizzas and pizza by the slice. A new grill will be installed; beverages will be attainable through two new beverage sta tions. There will be a spe cialty bar, a new dessert bar, breakfast bar, salad bar, and a new bar for the traditional hot meals. The cafeteria is taking on a completely different look and atmosphere. The colors will be the wonder- ful green and gold to show our pride of course. Renovations will kick off around May 20"’ and will end sometime at the end of July. During the summer months, the Lions Den will be open for breakfast, lunch, and din ner. Seating will be available in the Den and out in the common area of the Bems Center. After over a year of planning, researching, and vis its to other schools such as Wingate, Pembroke, and Pres byterian College, what all the students have been waiting for is finally happening. “The caf eteria will t^e on a more indi vidualized and personalized theme,” Blanc said wm>"- ■ am':!: The Cafeteria as it is now Photo hv Ashleigh Radford The Methodist College Community would like to send out a big THANK YOU for everyone who participated in Show You Care Day! •: III J Si h .«• T 'SI ?
