P«g« 10-THg PE»M>^obf. .IMS Welcome to computer world By Pamela Burns Cecil White, instructor of In troduction to Computers and Coordinator of the Computer Lab, offers on-tlie-job training for all students on Saint Augustine’s campus. The computer room is opened from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. where Mr. White assists students who are intersted in learning about computers as well as the word processor. Approximately 80 percent of the student body participates in the computer lab. The lab equip- Guys, if you’re turning 18, race down to the Post Office and register with Selective Service. It only takes five minutes to fill out the card. So what are you waiting for? Join the gang and register. It s quick. It’s easy. And It’s the law. 4 ment used includes word pro cessors that require two wings and a printer, along with 25 PS’s and PC juniors, and many IBM computers available for the students’ usage. Several students have formed a Computer Club which consists of members majoring in either Computer Science or Business. Each Computer Science or Business major is required to take a class in computer because of the experience needed to com pete in the job market. According to White, in the world of computers, it is advance knowledge when you become aware of the changes thai com puters can make in the years to come. White stated, “I encourage more people to get involved with computers or at least have an idea of what it is all about.” White says that there will be semester workshops available for students and the outside public. However, the workshop schedule will be posted at a later date. Pre-Hack College Fonim By Terry Ann A. Gordon The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., sponsored a pre-black college day forum in the Pine Arts Threater, Thurs day, September 24th. Dr. Kamau Kambon, a pro fessor of education at St. Aug., spoke on the topic: “Blacks Yesterday, Today, and Tomor row”, which was designed to educate our brothers and sisters who are enslaved by “mental genocide.” “A doer doesn’t talk, and a talker doesn’t do;” “The U.N. is a puppet of the American govern ment;” “When you are an enemy to yourself, you are also an enemy to your people;” “Is the black man lost because he is op pressed, or is he oppressed because he is lost?”, were a few factual and inspirational quotes that Dr. Kambon expressed. He also encouraged blacks to take care of themselves emotionally, psychologically, and physically, and to recognize the three kinds of education: book, street, and understanding the !>>stem. Calvin Harrison, president of the SGA, who gave opening remarks, encouraged students to feed the mind intellectually, and to attend more informative pro grams that entertain black jninds.
