SO WIJilT?
Several members of the student
body, especially the girls, would
like to ask Bishop boys exactly
why they want to bury the college’s
first baseball game in an "Insig
nificant corner"? How can an in
significant score hurt a team or
school's morale or spirit? The
University of Virginia set arecord
this year, a record for the high
est number of consecutive losses
in football games, namely 2S in a
row. One thing is probably most
certain, the spirit of Virginia’s
student body is still as great and
strong as ever. It doesn’t take
a winning team to make a school
have pride. It takes a team that
is trying and that, the Bishops
are doing, even if the weather
isn’t cooperating. A close look
at this year’s schedule will re
veal that Kt,esleyan is playing a
rough one even for a school that
has been organized and playing
ball for seasons before. So v^hat
if the score v/as one-sided. If it
had been 24-23, the outcome would
have looked the same, as it is
now, you, the boys, have a goal to
work toward, just as the girls have
a goal, winning a game of ping
pong fairly. Of course, we don’t
have to boast about losing, but
there is no reason to hide the
fact that v/e have a team that is
playing and working as the »vesle-
yan Bishor»s.

All students who are going
home for the Easter holidays are
asked to see Miss Lois Collins
for orientation in recruiting stu
dents to Vvesleyan next year.

iiVe all can remember when we
drove up to the college the first
morning of school. We were gree'fe^
ed in front with brush scattered
all under the trees; we had to
climb over piles of dirt to get
to the back steps. The more we
saw of the building and campus,
the fainter our dreams of a
movie-type campus became.
The students of 1961-’62 will
receive quite a different first
impression next fall. The land
in front of the Administration
Building has been landscaped,
and magnolia trees, holly bushes,
and boxwoods are now being plan
ted. We have a carpet of green
under the pines v;here undergrowth
once lay. .jhen they drive around
to the back, they v/ill park their
cars in a special student parking
lot and w^ill see no stray piles
of dirt.
I’m sure we all want to see
our campus grow more beautiful as
the year passes, vve, as students,
can help a great deal by refrain
ing from throwing litter anywhere
on campus. If we do as fine a
job of keeping the inside clean
as v/e have done on the outside,
we will have a campus deserving
of the name "wesleyan".
