October H, 1961 NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN COLLEGE Pare 3 President’s Cabinet Names 4 Committees v>^ * * WESLEYAN BUILDINGS NAMED — Trustees of North Carolina Wesleyan Collegre named the buildings pictured above on the new campus. These are (left to right) the Gravely Science Building, the Braswell Administration Building, and the Pearsall Classroom Building. Enrollment Total Is Set At 232 North Carolina Wesleyan College has enrolled a total of 232 students for the academic year 1961-62, ac cording to Ronald Sherron, director of admissions. This record enrollment is ac counted 'for by 198 freshmen and sophomores in the College and 34 students in the Evening School. The 198 students represent 138 new students and 60 students re turning from the first year ot Wesleyan. These come from 12 states, mostly along the Atlantic coastline. North Carolina leads with 155 students, followed by Virginia (24), Maryland (4), New York and Pennsylvania (3), Connecticut and New Jersey (2), and one each from Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island. ■Methodists Lead Most of the students report a church affiliation. The Methodist Church leads with 103 students fol lowed by 58 members of the Bap tist Church. There are 15 Episco palians, 10 Presbyterians, 4 mem bers of the Christian Church, and 12 belonging to other churches. One third of the entering stu dents are undecided as to a vo cational goal, but most expressed their preference. Teaching attract-' ed 24, business careers 12, the min-: istry and religious education 12 to lead the choices expressed. Student Lounge Closed The student lounge has been closed temporarily for the follow ing reasons: 1. Because drinks and candy were carried in the room and the cups and paper were left on the tables and floor. 2. Cigarettes were not properly disposed of. 3. Students have been putting 'their feet on the furniture, and causing scratches and other abuses to the furniture. 4. Because students have not been returning their chairs to the proper place after watching tele vision. After this room is re-opened, no drinks or candy will be allowed in this room. Students must return chairs to their places when they are finished with them, and of course students may not prop their feet on the furniture. If this room is not taken care of better than it has been, the privi lege of using this room can be taken away. However, we sincerely believe that the students are aware oif this unnecessary situation and will be mature enough to accept the responsibility of taking care of this property. Announcement According to Athletic Director Dr. Moe Bauer, athletic equip- meint may be checked out from the equipment room Tuesday- Thursday from one until five p. m., and on Saturday from one to five p. m., Sunday from two to five. I. D. cards must be left with the person on duty until equip ment is returned. Organization Will Formulate Policy I The President’s Cabinet of North j Carolina Wesleyan College met for the first time on Thursday, October I 5. This is the first time Wesleyan has had a working organization of j this kind. The purpose of this organization is to serve as a policy-making body for the students. The Cabinet has adopted the policy of approving all appointments to commissions be fore they are final. The Cabinet al so reserves the right to approve the dismissal of a commission member which it has approved. The reason for this policy is to keep the work-load of each student down. This system will compen sate for a point system. The Cabinet has approved the appointment of four new coanmit- 'tees to work to smooth out the working part of the S.G.A. The first of these committees is the Constitution Committee, composed of Vann Massey, John Alden and Dicky Moore. This committee will reprint the constitution, adding new amendments and restating parts which are not clear. The Efficiency Improvements Committee with Bill Hoyle as chairman, the Freshman cabinet member, and Joan Lamberth wiU try to find new ways of carrying on the work of the S.G.A. which will facilitate and accelerate each person’s duties. The Public Relations (Committee is composed of Joan Lamberth, chairman, and Carolyn Moore. This committee will be in charge of corresponding with friends and supporters of the school and writ ing any publicity s'tories concern ing S.G.A. for newspapers. The Budget Committee vdth Carolyn Moore as chairman and John Lamberth and John Alden will prepare a supply list for the business office with an estimate of the financial needs of the S.G.A. The members of the President’s cabinet are: President of the Stu dent Government Association, R. Vann Massey; Vice-president, John Alden; Secretary, Joan Lamberth; and Treasurer, Carolyn Moore; Di rector of Student Life and S.G.A. Advisor, Dr. James R. Hailey; Sophomore representative to the Cabinet, Dicky Moore; chairman oif the Publications Commission, Bill Hoyle; chairman of the Social Commission, Evelyn Harris; chair man of the Athletic Commission, Ervin Cullipher; a Freshman cab inet member (to be elected); Pres ident and vice-president of the Freshman Class (to be elected).
