Page 4 NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN COLLEGE October 11, 1961 Sophomore Operates Ham Radio Station Bill Creekmore, a sophomore student, has brought his hobbie, ham radio operation, with him to the North Carolina Wesleyan cam pus. Bill received his ham radio oper ator’s license when he was four teen. After entering North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1960, he decid ed to share his radio equipment Evening Vespers Inspire Students In the quiet aloneness of the chapel I sit with myself, my conscience, my God. An important part of the develop ment of the student is his spiritual education. For this reason vespers and held every Sunday night in the campus chapel. The Sunday Evening Vesper Committee is composed of Joan Lambenth, Charry Gorham, Louise Kempley, Faye Ellington, Larry Deynolds and Richard Tripp. The function of the committee is to plan programs which will be of interest to college level students. Vespers are held each Sunday night at 7 p. m. in C-117, the tem porary chapel. The committee is working hard to have programs that will be interesting and give that special way to start the week out right. Everybody is urged to attend. with the college. The station was given a location, and K4HU14 be came its call letters. Bill’s enthus iasm spread to another member of the sophomore class, Louis Wom- ble. These two boys have been work ing hard to improve their project; they even worked on it during the summer. Bill and Louis have ex tended an invitation to the coUege community to join them in the Ham Radio Station Club. Membership in the club is not limited to male members, but is open to any inter ested person. The purposes of the club are: (1) to stimulate interest in ama teur radio and electronics, 2) to aid students in securing a ham radio operator’s license, (3) to render services to the stu dents by phone patches. Those interested in joining the Ham Radio Station Club may con tact Bill and Louis; they are usually at the station from 12 to 1 p. m. Dickie, who is from Rocky Mount, attended Wes leyan last year also. The cabinet is the branch of the Student Government Association which attends to daily matters of concern to the student body. Dickie will, among other duties, serve on the Constitution Sub-Committee, which will propose amendments to the constitution in an effort to make it more democratic. The freshman representative to the caibinet will be chosen by the freshman students in the forthcom ing elections. Faculty advisor to the cabinet is Dr. James A. Hailey. They are the first dorm council of ficers of Wesleyan College. In the women’s dorm, the sopho mores eligible for the office of president included Wanda Exum, Lillie Mae Delamare, Jane Smith, Margaret Walters, and Brenda Rose; Jane Smith was elected. The Council elected Patsy Powell, a freshman, to serve as secretary- treasurer. In the men’s dorm, Ervin CiiUi- pher was elected president. He was elected from the sophomore coun cilors including Jerry Miller, Jerry Chesson, Dickie Moore, and David Caison. Freshman council members elec ted were Bill Hoyle, Guy Rouse, Bill Horner, and Jimmy Johnston. The Council elected Bill Hoyle to serve as sectretary-treasurer.
