An expectant silence crept
through, subduing the boisterous
confusion. The crowd’s attention
turned en masse toward the cen

In a technical matter of minutes,
reigning May Queen Joan Lam-

Evelyn Harris, May Queen for
1962-63!
It was a short but impressive
ceremony that took place last Sat
urday night (May 12) at the Na
tional Guard Armory. The back
ground music was lovely. The
girls, attractive in their floor-
length white formals and silver-
spangled floral crowns, carried
pastel colored arm bouquets. They
were selected on the basis of per
sonality and participation in cam
pus activities as well as individual
beauty.
It is an honor to be May Queen,
to be selected by the students to
represent the college as the typi
cal campus coed. As the May
Queen, Evelyn Harris will reflect
N. C. W. C.’s tastes, trends, and
standards.
Evelyn is a native of .Atlantic,
N. C. A slight, dusky beauty, she
was regally dressed in a white
satin sheath formal that was creat-
tcd especially for her by her mo
ther, Mrs. Nadine Harris. Miss
Harris was presented with an arm
bouquet of long-stemmed American
Beauty red roses. She later receiv
ed a gold charm to remember the
occasion since the crystal crown
