TUESDAY. MARCH 30. 1965 THE DECREE TAGE SFYEN Golfers Set ForPromisingSeason Wesleyan’s 1965 golf season opens with only one returning golfer, Buzz Barker. In addition to Buzz, there are two with pre vious competititive experience. These are Buck Roney and Fred Halloman who may prove to be strong contenders in conference play. These three will probably occupy 1st, 2nd and 3rd posi tions. Dave Barbin, Irvan Clear, and Rodney Moore, due to team inexperience will probably be in 4th, 5th, and 6th positions and extra effort will be extended in order to help them produce to their potential. This week is the first time that the team has been able to get out and practice due to wet and cold weather. Regular prac tice consists of 18 holes a day, four days a week. Coach Scalf expressed his appreciation to Mr. James for his help with the golf team. He has helped greatly due to his experience with Wake Forest’s team. The team is anxiously await ing their first match which is a tri-match with Methodist and St. Andrews at Wesleyan on the 25th of March. They expect coaches to produce winning teams and sea sons but with out student sup port, six people out for golf, seven for tennis and fifteen for oaseball is not what one would call sterling support, coaches can produce little with this kind of participation. Photo by Davis WOMEN CLASH IN POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL April 22 is the day of the annual clash between the Freshmen and Upperclass women on the N.C. W.C. campus in a powderpuff football game sponsored by the^ W.R.A. plans for the gapne include the wearing of football jerseys as uniforms, boy cheer leaders selected from the student body, and awards given to each member of the winning team along with an award for the out standing lineman and backfleld player. Anne Van Wagoner and Jane Floyd are captains of the Fresh men and Upperclass teams resp ectively Tickets for the event will be 25? per person as the football game is the chief money making project of the club. Practices are held several afternoons a week and students interested are requested to at tend, “We want support of the school, especially girls coming out, practicing and playing to help make this event a success”, says Rita Abernathy, president.
